I try to keep my ear to the ground when it comes to movies, actors, what is coming out, who is involved in what, when etc and while I think I am doing a decent-to-okay job, something exciting sometimes slips past my radar that leaves me surprised. This trailer for Argylle is something I never even heard of, but with this cast, wow! With the writers and actors strike of recent, things have been fairly quiet because nobody could talk about any projects coming up, if they were supporting the guild, but I feel like, as soon as they came to some sort of tentative agreement, the floodgates have opened and BOOM, trailers after trailers after trailers have dropped! Netflix, for a start... Check my reviews on what they are up to! But I thought I would have heard something about this movie considering a lot of talk in recent months have centred around Henry Cavill due to his role in Black Adam etc.
This trailer definitely gives me a Kingsman/Man from U.N.C.L.E/Bullet Train vibes and I found Bullet Train soo entertaining and wild. Clever writing, brilliant acting, clever use of the camera and when everything seems to be hitting on all cylinders, sometimes you can have a really great and entertaining film. For example, a few moments in this trailer made me smile or laugh, for example; when John Cena's character took the woman off of the bike as she was riding it, brilliant! The moment Sam Rockwell opened his mouth on the train to Bryce Dallas Howard (I knew it was him) and then the fight ensues, excellent! Seeing Samual L. Jackson, was a little bit of a roll your eyes moment for me, of course he would be in this movie, of course. I love me some Samuel L. Jackson but his presence did not surprise me. Seeing Sophia Boutella as well as Bryan Cranston, already I am highly interested, not to mention Superman himself, Henry Cavill and Catherine O'Hara. The premise from what I can gather from the trailer, a woman writing a novel plays out actions with real people in real life, so someone wants to kidnap her to help them to achieve their goal. Interesting indeed. This already looks great, nothing else needs to be done to sell me any more.
There comes a point where you simply throw in the towel. There comes a point where you reach great heights, but the "ceiling" of your own making prevents you from soaring to new heights. The MCU has gotten to a point where, while I would have stated, they are only competing against themselves in film, yes, but in TV shows, no. With numerous other TV shows from different IPs out there creating great content, the juggernaut of comic book movies' clumsy transition and decline in TV show production is starting to dilute the brand for the fans and we are very close to throwing in the towel. With that said, the MCU's movies of late have not been great also, so we fans are maybe, closer to giving up on the franchise because mediocrity does not enthuse us, the fans. This might sound harsh and it also might paint an ugly picture of how I ultimately feel about this show, but I kid you not, this show was actually, really really good, in places...but that is the problem, in places. I'll explain.
Secret Invasion picks up after the events of 'Endgame' and we are seemingly in the middle of a Skrull invasion. Skrulls are shapeshifting aliens last seen in the 90s when Carol Danvers fought off the Kree to protect the Skrulls. Nick Fury made them a promise to find a new planet for them to live on, but several years later, the leader of a group of rebel Skrulls decides to fight for his people and lead a group of Skrulls in a fight to take the planet for themselves.
A really good premise, excellently acted by Samuel L. Jackson, Don Cheadle, Ben Mendelsohn and Kingsley Ben-Adir. Emilia Clarke was decent but was not given much to do. However, Charlayne Woodard was really good for the little screen time she had and Olivia Colman was absolutely superb. And here lies the issue. With a premise like the one it has, why were only some actors written great and had some excellent conversations and interactions where they were brilliantly acted, but other characters' dialogue and interactions were not as good or well thought out. It is the execution of the storyline and the setup of some of the scenes that are simply lacking. The show had the potential to be just like Captain America: The Winter Soldier but darker with more espionage and paranoia especially when you are dealing with shape-shifting aliens who could be anyone, but the show falls short of its potential.
There is a conversation between Nick Fury and Colonel James Rhodes which was excellently written and acted out. There was a conversation between Nick Fury and Talos on a train and that was excellently written and acted out. Every scene with Sonya Falsworth, Olivia's acting to dialogue was simply a standout and stole every scene she was in, so it begs the question, how come the show ended up being as lacklustre as it was? There is a conversation between Nick Fury and Gravik, but the whole scene falls a little flat in the end and does not really make any logistical sense. The climax in the end was simply nonsensical and has left us, the viewers and especially the fans with more questions than answers for the MCU going forward.
As I have stated earlier, it is a good premise, excellent even. Great actors in great roles with amazing scenes. The dialogue in some places was excellent and the special effects were great, although limited not to mention the climax. The show touches on some points and has something to say. The music, scenes and settings are all great. So with that said, this is not a show that is trash, but it is a show that was good but could have been great and it makes you wonder what is happening at Disney. If I am honest, the show was good but was a disappointment or it is quite possible that I wanted too much from the show because I saw the potential, but I did not get the tone of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and if anything, this show is more of a letdown, an enjoyable let down, unfortunately.
So yesterday I saw an ad for this movie. It looked a little bit like a poster but it was a short audio clip letting us know that a trailer for The Marvels is out today. However, I completely forgot the trailer for this movie was out today, so when I saw a message somewhere saying the trailer dropped, of course, I went to go and watch it. And I will let you know before I get into it I LOVED THIS TEASER TRAILER!
While we are not exactly sure when this is, in the MCU, we are presented with a problem between Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel from the Captain Marvel movie, Monica Rambeau aka Lieutenant Trouble from the WandaVision TV show (as an adult and the Captain Marvel movie as a child) and also Kamala Khan from the Ms Marvel TV show, and right away I can tell you, I will love this movie and Iman Vellani is going to steal this entire movie fangirling over meeting her idol and working with her. I love the energy she brings in the clips and the child-like qualities we have not seen since Spider-Man. The Beastie Boy's Intergalactic was a phenomenal choice for the music. While the MCU needs a win at the moment as a lot of their recent movies have been decent and not excellent. With films leaning more to the comedic side with lacklustre jokes, this trailer worryingly provides this as well, but this movie actually might work. Let's just hope it does work as Ms Marvel was a good watch. It's just a teaser for now.
There has been a few Marvel Cinematic Universe shows that have been really good, a very small few that have been brilliant and some, just ok. With that said, one of my favourite MCU movies as a standalone movie, possible the best out of the entirety of the MCU, is Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Espionage Thriller. This looks like it is following in the same vein and I LOVE IT!
There has been some speculation as to when Nick Fury left earth and we might get a response to that now with this show. I call, since Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Nick Fury has not been on earth, but it seems he has now returned, looking grizzled trying to uncover a threat and trying to stop a secret invasion by himself, because we do not know, who is who and who to trust. Looks EXCELLENT!
Due to the panini, the pandemonium, the pancake mix, the pancetta or whatever we want to label last years infamous word of 2020, the Pandemic, movies went on hold for an entire year. Of course there were a few that tried to come out and didn't do too well, Bloodshot, Tenet etc, (although having not seen Bloodshot, Tenet WAS the better film), we are currently being inundated with trailers and movies and if I'm being honest, I do feel some films are really going to feel the wrath of a scared and concerned people. People do not want to go into cinemas due to risking catching a case of Corona Virus 2019. Movies such as Black Widow has not grossed the money it would have normally on opening weekend and rightfully so, because no one really wants to go to the cinema...oh, and Disney released it also on Disney+ at the same time. People are being more selective about what they are coming out of their homes to watch. With that said, right now, cinema's are pretty empty and NOW is the perfect time to go. Also, with that said, we need a reminder of which films are coming out so we can make that choice. The Protégé is that movie...maybe.
This trailer could have been better. A 33 second clip with Samuel L. Jackson and Maggie Q is great but where was the action? Where was the Drama? They could have at least included 10 more seconds of flash imagery of the movie. I felt this was lackluster and the fact they spent money on this leads me to believe the movie won't actually be that bad since the studio put some money behind it for this trailer...it's just that, this trailer doesn't do much to get people out of their homes to want to watch it, you know? Maybe the studio will drop something a bit more substantial and meaty before the movie is out.

I'm going to start off with...maybe I should have re-watched the first one before watching this. Although I remember the first one, very vaguely, I remembered it was funny in places and it was simply Ryan Reynolds doing Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson doing Samuel L. Jackson with a lot of craziness involved and guns. In this case, the sequel, this is more of the same but, I'm not sure if it was the drink, tiredness or straight delirium, but this movie had me laughing sooo hard, I was streaming tears and struggling to breathe. It actually took me out of the film for possibly 5 minutes because I was trying to catch my breath back and stop crying! #Sigh #Goodtimes
Michael Bryce is a Bodyguard, or in this case, a former bodyguard. Traumatised and suffering from PTSD, he wants out of the life and wants to make peace with it. However, whilst trying to get away from it all and trying to get some peace and relaxation, Sonia Kincaid finds him and drags him back into the fold of being a Bodyguard for her whilst she has her own mission. The problem is, Michael is on a sabbatical from guns and firearms and wants nothing to do with it all, but when Interpol show up demanding help to thwart a terrorist mastermind named Aristotle Papadopoulos, Bryce must find a way to carry out the mission and get back into bodyguarding, the very thing he has been trying to get away from.
This film is funny! Whilst there might be some over the top moments, some dark humour, the action comedy doesn't get any more action comedy than this. There was a scene where a car blows up (it's an action film, this can't be a spoiler), and the first thing I thought was, "Ok, that was excessive...Michael Bay would have loved that" But that's just it, the film has excessive moments a plenty, but teeters on the end of anything in the recent Fast and Furious movies. This movie does everything to push Michael Bryce, especially as he doesn't want to be a bodyguard, so essentially what the life of bodyguarding is like and pairs him up with two impossible people he shouldn't be around.
There is a scene later in the movie that straight killed me in the cinema and I can't say too much as I could give away the scene but it was comedic genius. Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds destroyed the scene as the acting was perfect especially coming from their characters. Selma was also masterful as she was straight fowl-mouthed and everything you may vaguely remember from the first movie, but more. Antonio was great as essentially a Bond villain and he also played his part well, but a special shout out goes to, Frank Grillo, Richard E. Grant and Tom Hooper, as Frank was good, Richard was great and Tom was just excellent. I'm enjoying seeing more of Tom in films as I remember him from Game of Thrones as Dickkon, but more recently as Luther in Umbrella Academy. Put him in the MCU so we have more 'T' 'H' 's to rival the many Chris'.
You do not necessarily need to see the first movie to watch this one as it pretty much stands by itself and the movie has some soft character building moments too, but all in all, this was definitely worth the watch as I had soo much fun with this! I hope they do another.

The first trailer was decent and as I enjoyed it and it reminded me of the first film. The second trailer which was the Red Band trailer wasn't that great at all. In a comparison on how you advertise a movie trailer, those at Warner Bros who did Suicide Squad, did a great job. Two distinct trailers. But this trailer, damn, this trailer definitely sells me on the idea of watching this movie as it is greatly better than the first and second trailer.
This trailer, not only is it different from the first but gives us the synopsis in a totally different way by at first, providing a scene that ended the last trailer by putting it in the beginning and adding to it. A little more to the counselling scene and a little more to the "rescue scene". "It's pronounced, Thank you".
The second trailer did not do enough to sell the audience while this one shows us more actors like Morgan Freeman and Frank Grillo and they even brought back "The Cinema Guy" who used to say things in his deep voice, "In A World..." which has been missing since the 90's. Definitely sold on this one now as the other trailer did nothing, but I will say this, I hope they didn't get bad feedback from the last trailer and decided to throw in everything that makes the film great and/or funny in this one so we essentially see all the jokes and action. We will see.

I forgot about The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard and Samuel L. Jackson being in that, so now that I've seen that trailer, reviewed it and now seeing this one, I instantly thought in my head, "Sam is doing a lot of work!" The fact of the matter is that actors can do many movies in a single year, but it just depends when they drop, so sometimes it seems like one actor is in 6 movies in a single year when really they were shot at different times over a number of years. At first it seems wild, but it's good to keep busy, you know. And Maggie Q, to me, just hasn't been! I have not seen her in a while and whilst I know the name, I cannot at the top of my head recall a movie she was in last. Regardless, this looks good.
I do feel Sam is a little too big of an actor so it is a little difficult to see him in one-off movies playing side characters and not think he's Samuel L. M.F. Jackson, you know? But strangely enough, I was definitely getting 'The Hitman's Bodyguard' vibes but more 'The Long Kiss Goodnight'. One of my favourites by the way. It looks like he dies too and maybe a revenge quest but adding 'The Batman 1989' himself, the great Michael Keaton who, well...to whom is also massively famous, but not as larger than life as Sam, in my humble opinion, I can see him as this antagonist (so it seems) and not The Vulture or Birdman...damn three winged creatures in a single sentence...lol. From the studio that brought us John Wick and the Director of Casino Royal, I'm sure it's meant to guarantee awesomeness, well I'd hope so, as it does look good.

Is it wild of me to think that Red Band trailers are now the new craze? I feel like I haven't seen one in soo long and in the space of a few weeks, there has been three! This isn't a complaint at all, I don't mind them, it just feels new.
However, unlike The Suicide Squad trailer, this trailer isn't drastically different from the other trailer as it shows a few more bits and introduces the swearing rather than allude to it in places, so I wasn't really wow'ed by the trailer at all. I do feel that maybe this trailer should have came first if they were going to do a red band one because this one is somewhat lacklustre. At least The Suicide Squad gave us a completely different trailer for both their red band and non-red band trailer. I'm just saying it didn't move the needle for me much at all. In fact, it might have moved it slightly negatively. I don't know what it is but I now think they are trying too hard to sell it. We will see.

First of all, the name of this is stupid, but considering how comical this film seems to be AND like the original (or first one, The Hitman's Bodyguard), we are obviously going with the same comedic capers with Ryan's character as before.
The premise of this is funny. The Hitman's Bodyguard is assigned unwillingly to protect the wife of the hitman, becoming her bodyguard to help save the hitman whilst trying to refrain from shooting, killing or doing anything he would normally do as a bodyguard, "No Guns, No Killing and No Blood". Suffering from some type of PTSD and stress from his job as a hitman, antics ensue...lol. "A child would be soo happy to have you as it's host" LOL! I'm definitely interested especially as the first one was decent too.

On the 5th February 2020, a trailer for Spiral came out starring Chris Rock. It was a teaser trailer, 1 minute and 40 seconds and although the Saw franchise is dead to me, I remember saying that I enjoyed the trailer.
A whole year (due to covid 19) later, another trailer drops because in May 2020, we were all locked away and couldn't go outside due to quarantining, we are presented with this very different trailer and it looks really really good.
Again, I am getting a Seven vibe from this trailer, but this time it seems as though this film might be more epic in scale due to connectivity within the "Saw World" but seems like it will be a small budget and more claustrophobic affair. It will be interesting to see where we go in the future with this "franchise" and IF it will spin off sequels. I mean it does seem scary and maybe we need a new franchise, even if it is ripping on the old one a little.

Believe it or not, but I heard of this movie maybe 1 or 2 years ago and the first thing I thought when I heard the words "...Chris Rock is going to do another 'Saw' Movie or a Movie within the world of Saw (can't remember if it said reboot or not) with Samuel L. Jackson" I thought "Leave Saw alone and just do another new movie". Just to be clear, I was NOT defending Saw as a franchise as I stopped caring for it after Saw 2. I cant remember if I watched Saw 3, but the franchise means NOTHING to me.
Until today.
This trailer looks good. Executively produced by Chris Rock and also starring him and Samuel L. Jackson who also drops and iconic Samuel L. Jackson line, whether you love him or hate him, he fits this world and the craziness which is going to ensue. This movie definitely has a Seven vibe. Out in May, so we can only hope another trailer comes out which hooks us in and we watch and love it. Let another comedian direct horror and ACE it!

Apple are now smack bang in the middle of the streaming wars, well they very soon will be and someone already told me of a series starring Jason Mamoa called "See" which is meant to be a really good watch and has a great concept. So seeing this trailer obviously intrigued me due to Apple's efforts to plant themselves in this war with the calibre of projects and actors to rival Netflix (I'm sure and the new Disney+) so we shall see what more comes out from Apple TV.
Depending on scheduling and such, I do think Samuel L. Jackson is miscast for this role as it seems to me he is playing "himself" or a character that isn't that far removed from others he has done, but I am loving the 'based on a true story' aspect of the movie. Anthony Mackie is definitely a very credible star and I do like Nicholas Hoult as he was brilliant in Fury Road and as Beast in the X-Men franchise. I'm definitely interested in this story as I've heard nothing about it and am keen to learn. It's just upsetting to see racism in these period pieces which are a reflection on true events that happened in the past. How many successful black people and areas there would have been for a better America if those who could were allowed to.
Anyway, a definite watch for me.

At this point, it would seem as though Spider-Man films keep going on and on and people could be getting tired of it. We had Toby Maguire in the Spider-Man film from 2002, then we had Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-Man 2012, but it is probably safe to say that, Tom Holland is the perfect rendition of Spider-Man, debuted in Captain America: Civil War and his first movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming have ever had. Not only is Tomas young, he can grow into the role and not be a 30 year old playing a kid. No shade at all as the Raimi Spider-Man was great until they did part 3, but I hate the organic webs. Regarding The Amazing Spider-Man, I liked the way they properly delved into the lore more but they rushed it and messed up the sequel. Far From Home, being the third sequel in a Spider-Man movie is absolutely Amazing.
For anyone who watched the 90's Spider-Man cartoon, that show was what I watched that gave me the background to Spider-Man and his somewhat infinite Rogues Gallery. And considering Sony seem to be distancing themselves from the last two versions of Spider-Men movies, this movie is soo welcoming, especially when you know who Mysterio is.
Without going into too much detail as this entire movie is a spoiler, the film picks up moments after the events of Avengers: Endgame, where life has somewhat moved on but the ramifications are felt. Peter is struggling and just wants to have a break from saving the world. Peter just wants to be a kid and go on a school break and get closer to the girl he fancies, MJ. However, when these mysterious threats known only as Elementals appear all over Europe, Nick Fury enlists Spider-Man, with the help of a new hero named Mysterio to try and stop this threat or the world will be destroyed. In order to do this, Peter must rise to the occasion and be the hero Tony Stark, the Ironman see's in him.
This movie was amazing. Yes it starts a little slow because we are covering the aftermath of Endgame and the director () spent time allowing the audience to understand the world we are now living in, post-thanos, but halfway through the movie, the movie takes a dramatic turn and not only does the action kick in, the story changes and everything from this moment feels like it was taken straight from the comic books and TV show. Mysterio is one of my favourite Spider-Man characters and if you like his character, I would say that the movie was 2000% authentic to the material. I can't say any more unfortunately.
The special effects and the imagination on these guys, wow! The comedy, the tone, the heartfelt moments; I mean, I almost cried....almost. Spider-Man is just a kid and his supporting characters as well as the villains involved, they ALL have character and make Spidey very relatable and sometimes we forget, Peter is just a kid who is trying to struggle, with Great Power, comes Great Responsibility and this is translated in this movie. I have a few nitpicks and one MAJOR one, but I'm assuming that will come later on as Spider-Man is still learning to be, Spider-Man.
If you liked Homecoming, you need to definitely see this because if you like Mysterio like me, you will definitely love this movie. Also, the post credits scene not only blows your mind, but also sets up Phase 4. Spider-Man: Far From Home is the closing chapter to 3 Phases of the Thanos' Quest for the Infinity Gauntlet as the Infinity Saga and I cannot wait for what will happen next in the MCU.
We are at a stage in our lives and in Marvel's franchise that an origin movie may now be out of place. I mean our lord savour, Kevin Feige has mentioned no more origin movies, yet this one is a semi origin movie with a twist and ultimately, Marvel has stumbled with this one. It's sad to say, but they have and although I will review the film, I won't go into all the details and spoil anything, but reasons as to why they stumbled but didn't fall.
Marvel have stumbled with many films. Their way of doing something different and/or when they first started out, they were slowly piecing together what they wanted to do with the franchise. The Incredible Hulk is good, Ironman 2 is good, Thor: The Dark World is good and Ironman 3 is Goodish (not one of my favourites at all), but Marvel have had greater and many more hits than misses and have made small ret-cons here and there. One of the major ones of recent, by no fault of their own I guess, was with the Spider-Man: Homecoming movie, regarding the year. But that came down to communication and "admin" error? However, this is something that has been more forgiving by fans and helps with the integrating of such character into a grander story. If the new and upcoming Avengers: Endgame grosses around 3 billion worldwide, we are looking at a 10 Billion Dollar Franchise. 10 Billion. That's 9 zeroes.
But how does Captain Marvel's story fit into this? Well, any way Marvel can squeeze it in...for the women of the world!?
Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) is a Kree operative for Starforce who goes by the name of Vers. She is a confident, upbeat, determined, yet hard-headed woman who get's the job done at any cost. She has a good moral compass but is plagued by dreams and visions of what seems to be another life. On a mission to eradicate the Kree's sworn enemies, The Skrulls, the mission goes wrong and from that point, Carol aka Vers spends the rest of the movie trying to figure out the mysteries of her dreams and visions, who she really is and what and whom she is ultimately fighting for.
It sounds great on paper, but I personally feel that this movie could have been executed in a better way. This is where I feel they stumbled, and not fell. I felt that it was not fully fleshed out and that some of the characters could have had more depth as well as maybe, the film being a psychological thriller, a bit like how 'The Winter Soldier' was a 70's political thriller. With the themes in the movie, this film could have touched on that in a big way. What is real and what isn't. Who am I? Total Recall did that. And for the most part, that movie is a classic for many reasons. But they would still need to cater to the young ladies of the world to aspire to be Captain Marvel.
I didn't hate the film as I quite enjoyed it. Brie is not miscast at all and their are some great visuals and some really quiet moments that allow particular characters to shine. Lashana Lynch is great as well as Samuel L. Jackson. But as I said earlier, some character development with some other characters would have made the story a bit meatier. There are some decent visual gags as well as the many mid-nighties references. With many easter eggs and visual references of movies from that era, this movie hits it out of the park, but ultimately felt like a Phase 1 Movie in a Phase 3 world. Doctor Strange is a origin movie, even Black Panther, yet these movies feel like they pack more of a punch, especially with Black Panther...and this woman has glowing fists! I felt that it was shoehorned into the MCU because DC made a Wonder Woman movie which was very good. And these two giants are in deep competition with each other, so there is always a company trying to out-do the other and this is possibly another reason why Marvel stumbles.
A lot of people are saying Carol is over powered and personally, although that is somewhat true, I feel we should have more powerful characters in the MCU, because this is how we will separate the many different tiers of these heroes and be able to tell a variety and multitude of different stories. Phase 4 is looking to be great and varied, especially with the conclusion of the Fox Deal, I'm very interested in seeing what Carol will be doing in Avengers: Endgame and after. A sequel and the many prospects it has is great fore the future of the MCU as well as the many women and little girls who will feel empowered by Captain Marvel.
The combination of two movies!For those of you old enough to remember a
little movie called Unbreakable in the year 2000, this movie came out in a year
where superhero movies were minimal and few and far between.In actual fact, this was an era and
essentially the very start of this, now phenomenal genre where comic book
movies have now evolved from your essentially, “smack” “bamm” comic book
movies with cheesy dialogue and one-liners, to something a bit more
fantastical/Comic-booky but somewhat grounded in the reality of the world we
live in now.Even back then, comic book
movies are nowhere near to what they are now.
We had Marvel’s Blade starring Wesley Snipes in 1998, in which you could make
an argument, was the start of them all because two years later, we had X-Men
and for the fact that it was actually a great and still is a great and
Marvel-lous movie, but when the brand Marvel sold their properties off and Fox gave
us X-Men, everything changed.We
currently have the colossal giants, Marvel & Detective Comics battling it out
against each other, but a movie like Glass continues a story from a movie named
Unbreakable which got lost in the shuffle with the new superhero movies and the
fact that nobody knew what this movie was actually about, to now becoming a
cult hit spawning two sequels.Split
along with Unbreakable, not being like the traditional comic book movies, broke
away from the “stereotypes” of the comic book genre which has allowed them to
become cult classics from M. Night Shyamalan.
Glass picks up where Split left off, Kevin Wendell Crumb (James McAvoy) a man
suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder, is continuing his spree but has
caught the attention of David Dunn (Bruce Willis) and his son Joseph who have
set up a “Business” of saving people through the powers David has by touching people.Upon investigating the individual known as The Horde, David meets up
with The Beast. A fight ensues until they are caught by the police and detained for their crimes and placed into a
Mental Institute with Mr. Glass, a comic book enthusiast and terrorist who has
Type I Osteogenesis.Whilst in the
Asylum, Dr. Ellie Staple, the head doctor of the mental institute decides to
work with these three patients who claim to have special powers - The Overseer,
The Hoard and Mr Glass to hopefully cure them of their “illness” and delusions of grandeur.
Without going into too much and giving away the entire film, it is best to go
into this movie with an open mind and not expect a twist like M. Night’s other
movies.I really enjoyed this movie due
to the way the story was told over the entire Trilogy.This film as a stand-alone movie is good, but
I felt that the direction was akin to Split than Unbreakable, but not as dark and chilling.
I felt that the story as a whole is great and somewhat alludes to an even
grander picture/world, however it is interesting to know if M. Night will continue
the stories or characters in this universe.
The acting is excellent.Both McAvoy and
Jackson are absolutely, amazing.It’s
simply ‘light work’ for them. I mean, I was thinking Professor X and Nick Fury.However,
Willis, although good, I feel he should have had a bit more to do in a role he
played in 19 years ago. Maybe more scenes with him and him doing more things so we could see the full extent of his powers maybe.
This film was funny, it was sinister and thrilling as you aren’t really sure
what is going to happen, even though from the very beginning, I could
gauge what the movie is going to do, up until a certain point, until they pull
the rug from under you with it's very small reveal, than a twist.Unfortunately,
you only lose balance than fall to the ground.
I’d recommend watching this film as it is shot well and to see and understand the world that M. Night
has created and that it is actually a decent film, but I’d assume it will rub
some people up the wrong way because the film in itself is definitely, NOT spectacular.A good popcorn flick, have a gander. Maybe it could be entered into one of the best Trilogies of all time!?! Well apart of the discussion, I'm sure.
So, I saw this film as an early screening after tons and tons of trailers and clips and EVERYTHING. Needless to say that this was most definitely OVERKILL and although the film looked great, I was pretty much sick and tired of it all. At one stage, I went to see a film and ended up seeing a 10 minute clip of CA:TWS and although it got me interested in the film, I couldn't help but think, "gimme the movie now, alright!". I felt it was totally unnecessary.
So, as the film starts, I see the same 10 minute clip at the very beginning of the film that I saw before watching another film and I was upset. I've seen it all before. I was a little annoyed, but to be fair, the clip was excellent, so although I had already seen it, there were some great memorable bits I remembered and bits I didn't see as I was probably laughing too hard. And just like that, the film opens out into greatness!
For those who do not know anything about CAP; Steve Rogers aka Captain America (Chris Evans) was a weak and frail young man who underwent a scientific experiment to become an enhanced human at the peak of human perfection with an experimental serum in aid to win World War II. As this worked out to be a success, Steve Rogers fought in the war and with his efforts and the defeating of the villain named Red Skull who was trying to use a cosmic cube called the Tesseract to carry out evil villainess things, Captain America crash lands his plane to save countries from being totally obliterated by Weapons of Mass Destruction. Presumed dead and is later found 70 years later, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) welcomes Captain America: The First Avenger to a brand new world where things have changed a great deal.
Shortly after being "awoken", Captain America joins, Iron Man, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow & The Hulk in a desperate effort to stop Loki (Thor's Brother) from using the same cosmic cube, The Tesseract to open a wormhole which will unleash an alien race called the Chitauri to overpower and control Earth. With Loki's defeat and everyone going back to their "normal" lives, Captain America is still trying to adjust to living in a completely different world which is 70 years on and also has Aliens, Gods and Magic thrown into the mix. Not only is this something which will take some time adjusting to, Captain America who now works with S.H.I.E.L.D's espionage agency, is dubious about how Shield operate, their motives and who he can really trust. This is where CA:TWS kicks off with a Bang and becomes one of my most entertaining marvel films in a long time. Possibly since The Avengers.
With a secret operation looming involving 3 Helicarriers led by Alexander Pierce (Robert Redford), which will be used to eliminate threats worldwide, things turn sour when Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) doesn't tell Captain America about her mission objectives, Nick Fury gets attacked by an unknown assailant and CAP gets framed the the death of someone really important (I'm trying to keep this Spoiler free). With no one to turn to or trust, Steve Rogers teams up with Sam Wilson aka The Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and tries to clear his name, solve the mystery of the death of that important person, uncover S.H.E.I.L.D Secrets and who this new player/myth/ghost/legend is they call The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan).
This film is much darker than the first film. Grittier and is more of a suspense thriller than just a comic book movie like how The Avengers was. I understand that billions of people worldwide did not like the first Captain America film, but I did. No it wasn't great, but to put that film into context with eras and timing, the first film made sense to me. This film on the other hand, could not be any more perfect than it already is. The bar was raised as the stakes are very high. The acting, the fight scenes, the characters, the secrets, the lies, the suspense, it was all too much. The film has a very serious tone to it as well as being laced with comedy throughout and still manages to portray a comic book movie.
I could not give anymore praise to this film as everything worked. It makes me completely appreciate (to an extent) the reasons why the promotion for this film was heavily pushed. The first film only made, 370 Million at the box office on a 140 Million Budget. And although it made more than double the cost of the film, when a film like Iron Man 3 can make 1.2 Billion on a 200 Million Budget, the push made a lot of sense. Hopefully, everyone who is caught up in Marvel's Cinematic Universe will go to see this or who would give this one a chance after possibly not liking the first one, I could not stress any more that, if you do not see this film, there is something really wrong with you. Like, really wrong with you. Especially if you do not like it.
Never in my life have I wanted to be a shield agent with Nick Fury status...AND I watch Marvel's Agents of Shield. I might even see it again over the weekend.
Go and watch it...you won't be disappointed. Oh, AND you don't need to have seen the first one or The Avengers to pick up the storyline.
I just need to start this off first and foremost by saying, Hulk Smash.
So, the moment we have all been waiting for. A film with so much stars and warrants soo much awesomeness that has to be cradled and supported with a good or worthy enough storyline that the people, the viewers and the fans are satisfied and can't complain or want to, do, saying the storyline was rubbish but the action was great. Expendables.
I ask, who is your favourite superhero? Ok, from the Marvel Universe? Ok, ok, from these recent films building up to The Avengers?
The idea of the Avengers Initiative is to have a band of heroes protecting Earth when Earth needs them the most from a force that your favourite Superhero could not manage alone. Cue, Hulk Smash. These Heroes would need to work together and band as a team to conquer the evil so that us normal, boring, unsuperintelligent, freak accident-free and/or mutant cell-free dwellers of Earth may carry on living our lives.
This film is just great.
I'm not just saying that for the special effects, the storyline was pretty decent too. Just to recap and hopefully in chronological order.
Ironman (Robert Downey, Jr) caught the attention of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and mentioned the Avengers Initiative to him. Nick then went to General Thunderbolt to talk to him about the whereabouts or "release" of The Incredible Hulk (Edward Norton, but replaced by Mark Ruffalo) and then the Asgardian Demi-God Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and his mischievous brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) comes to earth, just to level a small town around the same time Tony Stark had to battle Whiplash. Loki then comes back with an army of beings from out of space called Chitauri's (Skrulls) in which they intend to use the Tesseract in which The Red Skull used trying to rule the world, thwarted by Captain America (Chris Evans), to rule the world. The problem is, will the Avengers work together successfully and manage to stop the enemy?
At one point the film felt like it was dragging a touch, but then I'm pretty sure every superhero has a dry spell, no?
Make sure you watch. Joss Whedon did damn well on this one. Funny, sad, even funnier, awesome and when things were looking like, resistance is futile, the film comes up on top. And I personally think you can expect a lot of things from this film, but come away from it, totally satisfied and geared up for part 2.
Tony Stark: "I am Iron Man". Wow! What a way to end a film, eh? Then if you stayed to the end of the credits, you were treated to a short scene starring Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) where Nick Fury talks to Tony about The 'Avenger Initiative'. Exciting right? More films, yaaay! Avenger's what? I'm sure your happy nonetheless. So, word on a new Iron Man film featuring side-kick War Machine must have got some people sooo hyped up they accidently excreted on themselves.
Anyway, just before I go into this, Terrence Howard should have kept to being 'James Rupert Rhodes', I'm pretty sure he could have made a pretty penny from some sequels and maybe his own film, but hey....whatever really. Someone is Laughing somewhere.
Now that the world knows Tony Stark is Iron Man, he is still seemingly, untouchable. Senator Stern wants the Iron Man suit for the U.S Government, but although it might have deemed a super idea to fight crime and terrorism throughout the world, Tony Stark refuses, knowing that his suit in the wrong hands will be dangerous.
In the mean time, Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell) tracks down Ivan Vanko (Mickey Rourke) who was apprended after he pulled a stint at the Circuit de Monaco whilst Stark was driving, caught him off-gaurd and well, almost killed him. Might I just add here that, Tony Stark has a portable Iron Man suit which is dressed up as a Briefcase. That scene was just exciting.
So, after lapsing at his own party, a very drunk Tony Stark upsets his pal Rhodey who then puts on the "other" suit and they have an Iron Fist-de-cuff which results in Iron Man getting his Arse whooped and Rhodey stealing the suit. Given to the Milatary who tamper with the suit and buy Arms from Justin Hammer, they make the other suit into a War Machine and with Ivan working with Justice Hammer, he makes an amy of Super Robots both, Navy, Air Force and Military to be programmed to kill Tony Stark led by an in-house player.
All a bit much, right? Well I can assure you that this film was interesting, exciting, but short. Maybe not even short as in length-wise, but the fight scenes just didn't seem long enough. I know it's Iron Man, but he was barly battered from pillar to post.
i thoroughly enjoyed this film and left the cinema thinking, that was great. But when you thought the film through, you wanted more, expected more and well, although War Machine WAS more and there WAS more enemies if you want to include the drones; it just didn't seem like it was enough. I wanted to leave the cinema thinking, The Invincible Iron Man, but I never.
You'll enjoy this anyway. Funny where it needs to be, serious where it needs to be and also, incase you didn't know, wait till AFTER the credits. The Film actually stars TWO Hammer's. Think about it.
Hayden Christensen plays (David Rice) a young man who discovers how to teleport (Jump) from one place to another in an instant. As this abnormality makes him and others like him different, they are seen as superior, God-Like, as it were and tracked down to be killed. David then discovers that there has been a raging war that has been going on for centuries between the 'Jumpers' and the 'Paladins', led by Samuel L. Jackson (Roland Cox) in the mist of just getting into doing whatever he wants, whenever. After shortly discovering this, he has to then fend off the Paladins and save himself and his love interest.
This film isn't a blockbuster at all, but is a very good watch. Samuel's character is sinister and if you have not seen him in arole like this, you'd be pleasantly surprised. Hayden also acts well in this film, but i think the hat comes off to Billy Elliott star, Jamie Bell (Griffin), who i believe his role steals the show and the lime light from Hayden.
The locations in this film will make anyone who likes to travel want to travel to these places. We see Rome, The Grand Canyon, London, Egypt and Tokyo among many more. The fight scenes also take us across the world and the road in a matter of seconds and also add that little extra sense of 'the world is your oyster' kind of thing. However, the dazzling special effects may leave you a little dizzy.
If you enjoy a Samuel L. Jackson film, then this is something for you. No powerful statements though. You are bound to enjoy as there is a good storyline, however, the length and ending may disappoint. Another disappointing thing about the film is the character development. Maybe they will explain a bit more, later.
