(trailer review) - Argylle

I try to keep my ear to the ground when it comes to movies, actors, what is coming out, who is involved in what, when etc and while I think I am doing a decent-to-okay job, something exciting sometimes slips past my radar that leaves me surprised. This trailer for Argylle is something I never even heard of, but with this cast, wow! With the writers and actors strike of recent, things have been fairly quiet because nobody could talk about any projects coming up, if they were supporting the guild, but I feel like, as soon as they came to some sort of tentative agreement, the floodgates have opened and BOOM, trailers after trailers after trailers have dropped! Netflix, for a start... Check my reviews on what they are up to! But I thought I would have heard something about this movie considering a lot of talk in recent months have centred around Henry Cavill due to his role in Black Adam etc. 

This trailer definitely gives me a Kingsman/Man from U.N.C.L.E/Bullet Train vibes and I found Bullet Train soo entertaining and wild. Clever writing, brilliant acting, clever use of the camera and when everything seems to be hitting on all cylinders, sometimes you can have a really great and entertaining film. For example, a few moments in this trailer made me smile or laugh, for example; when John Cena's character took the woman off of the bike as she was riding it, brilliant! The moment Sam Rockwell opened his mouth on the train to Bryce Dallas Howard (I knew it was him) and then the fight ensues, excellent!  Seeing Samual L. Jackson, was a little bit of a roll your eyes moment for me, of course he would be in this movie, of course. I love me some Samuel L. Jackson but his presence did not surprise me. Seeing Sophia Boutella as well as Bryan Cranston, already I am highly interested, not to mention Superman himself, Henry Cavill and Catherine O'Hara. The premise from what I can gather from the trailer, a woman writing a novel plays out actions with real people in real life, so someone wants to kidnap her to help them to achieve their goal. Interesting indeed. This already looks great, nothing else needs to be done to sell me any more.

(trailer review) - The King's Man

Red Band Trailer - Please note adult themed material.

I'm starting to like that we are starting to see Red Band trailers more and more as I feel they have been missing for a while.  No, I don't need the swearing and/or blood in trailers, as in, it's not essential to entice me to watch a movie, but sometimes it's nice to hear them from time to time in a trailer for a movie for that bit of tongue in cheek.  Let's face it, they don't make movies like they used to, when 15 was a 15 and 18 was an 18 and there was little to no focus on toy's or franchises. For me I feel it is all over the place currently but whatever, just give me some great movies, you know.

The first movie was great and whilst I enjoyed the second one, it did lack something the first one gave.  I can't quite pinpoint it, but when you think of The Kingsmen, the second one doesn't really grab you more than the first with those excellent memorable moments and judging by this trailer, we are getting style and a little substance like the trailer for the second movie, but will we get a great film?
Seeing Dijmon Honsou, such a talented actor, along with Ralph Fiennes, you just can't go wrong with these two or the cast.  What IS interesting is, whilst it is nice seeing Charles Dance, Daniel Bruhl too?  Hopefully, Matthew Vaughn has learn from the second movie, this one is great and then moves onto a 4, 5 and 6...hopefully? It's not a dead franchise I don't think and it does have promise, so let's see if this one is any good.

(film review) - Fantastic 4

I've been watching this develop from when they first announced it. I knew they were going to reboot it at some stage because the previous 2 didn't do that well and had they not rebooted the franchise, the rights would have went back to Marvel. With that said, Fox are having a decent time with X-Men due to First Class and Days of Future Past, but for Fox to keep a hold of their franchises, they will need to make a film every so often or reboot the franchise and do them well. This means, anything Mutant related belongs to Fox and Fox needs to come up with scorchers to keep them or break them up as much as they sensibly can and make great films which brings in money (spin-offs). Deadpool, Gambit and even X-Factor. A New Wolverine is coming but this is meant to be Hugh Jackman's last time. So unless they recast the role, Fox needs to pull more rabbits out of the hat. In Fantastic Four's case, Fox pulled out a Skunk.

Fantastic Four is about a man named Franklin Storm (Reg E. Cathey) who is looking into inter-dimentional travel with his student Viktor Von Doom (Toby Kebbell). He goes to a science fair with his daughter Sue Storm (Kate Mara) and finds a teenage Reed Richards (Miles Teller) along with his buddy Ben Grimm (Jamie Bell) who has somewhat cracked inter-dimentional travel when he was young but has found a way to complete the entire transition. Pleased with what he has seen, Franklin asks Reed to join him in completing a grander design in order to be the first to achieve such a feat. Reed accepted and once he enters the Baxter building and joins Viktor and Sue in the project, they decide to travel through the device only to re-enter earth horribly disfigured. However, once they hone their powers, Doom has his own plans and the team are required to band together to defeat him.

First of all, I'd like to say that this film is better than the first 2 put together, but it isn't a good film at all. The film tone-wise is great. Dark and horror-like for the first half of the film, but after that, the film seems choppy, rushed and just full of nonsense. The dialogue was boring and not very clever. The character's aren't very well developed or their back-stories at all. They had plenty of time to flesh them out. When Dr. Doom arrives, everything goes to sh*t. The special affects are standard, there are some inconsistencies and there is "logic" which makes no sense. There was barely any action and the "Boss Fight" is barely watchable. Again, I say, they had plenty of time to flesh things and plot points out. 

Don't get me wrong, the film wasn't absolutely garbage as I have seen some terrible films in my time, and some terrible superhero films, but this film just isn't good. The acting was perfectly fine, even the plot wasn't that terrible, but the cinematography and direction was appalling. For myself, the best bit in this film was when they came back and were all disfigured. That felt like a horror. It was dark, frightening and twisted, but that is the only redeeming thing about the film. Oh, and the throw away remark regarding Dr. Doom's name was excellent and the part in the woods was OK but just wasn't long enough.

This film lost its beat and travels at a ridiculous pace and kinda reminded me of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 at the end but as badly as that was done, this one is worse.

Watch with caution if you really like this from the trailers but to be honest, you are probably best to wait until it arrives on Netflix.

P.s...half of the things in the trailer aren't even in the film and the other half is is the film.

(film review) - Kick-Ass 2

So, a lil while back, Thursday, 8 April 2010 to be precise, I did a blog on Kick-Ass and I said and I quote "I had NO IDEA what this film was about. Spider-Man? Batman? Green Lantern? Some silly teen movie with something random like superheroes and making the film a whole lot shittier than the idea of making 'Blood & Chocolate' a film?". Well although Blood & Chocolate still remains to be one of my most shittiest films I have ever seen and now that I have seen the first Kick-Ass, I was somewhat prepared for Kick-Ass 2. With that said, the film still managed to surprise me with what it entailed.

The film carries on from the first Kick-Ass Movie where Dave Lizewski () has retired from crime fighting, but Hit-Girl () continues. The actions of Dave aka Kick-Ass has inspired members of the city to also become costumed vigilantes who are trying to seek justice, just as Dave started out. Red Mist (), still not over his fathers death changes his name to 'The Motherf*cker' and goes all out on a revenge crusade to kill Kick-Ass.

Things start to get out of hand for Kick-Ass and his new team of friends led by 'Colonel Stars & Stripes' () when 'The Motherf*cker' presents himself, wrecking carnage everywhere. With 'Hit Girl' trying to start High School and trying to be a normal teenage girl, she has her own problems to deal with let along the haunting words of her father, her guardian and the pressures of vigalante work.

If you have seen the first film, there is no doubt you will like the second installment. Although the film isn't as FRESH as it was the first time around, like the first Hangover film, the film still carries the blood, the gore, the shock value, the carnage and the teenage slapstick/adult humour.

This film isn't for the faint hearted as it is very action oprientated, but is able to keep you very entertained and interested even in the non-action scenes involving Hit Girl and her teenage High School trials and tribulations trying to be a "Normal" High School freshman. The fight scenes are excellent, as well as the pacing and dialogue. Visually entertaining and every bit the same as the first film. My only gripe witht he film is that the film should have had a bit MORE to the gore. More blood, more shocking, grisly and grim deaths and I feel the film would be much better than the first. An A La Bigger and Better. I just felt like they stuck with the same formulae which if fine, but didn't go beyond to add more to it. I understand the film was toned down from the comics, but I personally wanted more
