So yesterday I saw an ad for this movie. It looked a little bit like a poster but it was a short audio clip letting us know that a trailer for The Marvels is out today. However, I completely forgot the trailer for this movie was out today, so when I saw a message somewhere saying the trailer dropped, of course, I went to go and watch it. And I will let you know before I get into it I LOVED THIS TEASER TRAILER!
While we are not exactly sure when this is, in the MCU, we are presented with a problem between Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel from the Captain Marvel movie, Monica Rambeau aka Lieutenant Trouble from the WandaVision TV show (as an adult and the Captain Marvel movie as a child) and also Kamala Khan from the Ms Marvel TV show, and right away I can tell you, I will love this movie and Iman Vellani is going to steal this entire movie fangirling over meeting her idol and working with her. I love the energy she brings in the clips and the child-like qualities we have not seen since Spider-Man. The Beastie Boy's Intergalactic was a phenomenal choice for the music. While the MCU needs a win at the moment as a lot of their recent movies have been decent and not excellent. With films leaning more to the comedic side with lacklustre jokes, this trailer worryingly provides this as well, but this movie actually might work. Let's just hope it does work as Ms Marvel was a good watch. It's just a teaser for now.
The first trailer for this movie came out in February 2020 and due to world changing events such as the Corona Virus Pandemic, trailers started popping up again around June 2021 and whilst this film have been on the shelf waiting for a release date and eventually a release, I couldn't wait to tuck into this movie. I saw the original Candy when I was younger and I liked it. Tony Todd is definitely a house hold name and if you don't know the name, you know the voice. I believe I saw Candyman 2 and no others, if there were any others. So this movie seemed to be a continuation from the previous movies, a franchise reboot or both and I'm guessing you are wondering if I thought it was worth the wait, well sorta.
Anthony McCoy is a struggling visual artist trying to get his work well recognised and out there. He lives with his girlfriend Brianna Cartwright an Art Gallery Director and during a get together with Brianna's brother Troy and his partner Grady, troy tells a haunting story of the legend of Helen Lyle. Captivated by this story, Anthony checks out the area to gather information and visuals but becomes obsessed with Candyman's Legend and people start dying.
First of all, this is not a terrible movie, nor is it a bad one, but i had a few gripes with the storytelling and some of the things that occurred in the movie. Without going into spoilers, I just feel that certain things would not have transpired the way they had in the movie due to real life elements of people's behaviours. For example, if I fell over after stubbing my toe whilst wearing flip-flops and my toe was paining me or looking a little weird, I'd go to A&E, you know, or at least my girlfriend/partner or whomever I live with would bang on about me going to seek help. I also felt that there should have been more media or police interference in the movie for it to be somewhat realistic. Although a 90's film and dated now, the original Candyman had tension and evoked a lot of fear. I don't know ANYONE who saw the first movie that would say Candyman in front of a mirror NOW, due to watching the first movie. Having watched this, I feel you could say it every other word whilst eating an ice-cream in front of a mirror no problems, I just feel the horror element of it all is just not there.
Other than that, Nia DaCosta did a wonderful job directing this movie. The Music was great, the visuals were even better. There were a few tracking shots (and you know how I LOVE ME A TRACKING SHOT) in there and generally, the direction in this movie is simply phenomenal because the acting was also great. I did find some of the comments/dialogue with specific characters were not really universal, so some of the jokes fell a little flat for me and as well as it being a little bit of a slow burn at the beginning, this movie was indeed a good watch although banging you over the head with talks of gentrification. But the Police Brutality of it all is soo much more relevant than gentrification at this point, so having these things highlighted is great, but just a touch overboard for me. Expanding the lore on Candyman was also a great touch and going forward if this movie can get a sequel, maybe we can get more into the supernatural of it all, which would be great. The ending scene was great and I'm hoping this can be expanded on or it will just feel redundant.
Slasher films often make me laugh and this film is no exception. I can't remember if the original made me laugh but the kills in this film were visually creative in places and in others, just great! I do feel the lack of tension in some places do not give some of the kills the depth they deserve, but the you know when someone said Candyman 5 times, people were going to die, you were just sat there wondering how. This movie was missing the creep element the first film had. You want to feel creeped out and that if you did say Candyman, you honest feel that is the only time you are going to say it or you would get to a fourth time and then stop. Like I said earlier, this movie is not terrible and i'm sure a lot of people will like it/love it, I just felt I needed just a little more from the story. What I will say for Marvel fans out there, Nia is directing The Marvels (Captain Marvel 2) and going by how visually stunning this movie is and the use of camera movement, The Marvels has the potential to be visually great...a lot like Ryan Coogler's Black Panther.

I'm not sure how old I was when I first watched the first Candyman film from the 90's. I know, I enjoyed it and I wasn't scared. What I will say though, and it bares repeating since I said it in my last review, I will not and would not say Candyman 5 times in front of a mirror, folk tale or not. This trailer is infinitely much better as it shows more scenes, more actors/characters and more of the film.
I stated in my last review that Yahya's character is more of a researcher but in this trailer I got journalist vibes. I also got vibes that he wasn't turning into Candyman himself and that Tony Todd is back, but then there's this skin thing so maybe Candyman will be reborn through Yahya's character going forward. What ever it is, this looks like a treat. By the way, those puppets look creepy.

I'm going to be clear here and I'm only speaking for myself (as usual), but I feel a lot of people were with me and are with me when I say this, "Nobody really cared for Vision and Wanda in the MCU!" Granted these characters will have their respective fans or even like them as a couple, but for the most part, these two people were side characters. So to say that they were going to do a TV series about these side characters within the MCU, my interest was peaked only slightly, but ultimately I didn't care. So they advertise and/or mention the appearance of the character Darcy we may recognise from the first two Thor movies, I didn't care. Then advertise and/or mention the appearance of Jimmy Woo from the movie Ant-Man and the Wasp, I didn't care. Advertising and/or introducing the character Monica Rambeau (all grown up), a name we may recognise from the movie Captain Marvel, was the announcement that stuck with me and got me more interested. 1, because she is a black character from the comics and 2, I thought she was going to be introduced in Captain Marvel 2, so this was a shock to me, therefore had me intrigued, but other than that, I simply wasn't interested in the show WandaVision.
This is a 9 episode show and naturally, with a 3 act structure like any movie, however the events for this show take place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, so it was intriguing to know what would be happening going forward. When the show starts off, Wanda and her partner The Vision, having just got married (implied by the intro) drive into an area to live in their new home together. The setting is the 1950's. As this is set up as a TV show from that era, the aesthetics are as if you were watching a TV show from the 1950's. Wanda stays at home whilst Vision goes to work. A neighbour by the name of Agnes comes along to help assist Wanda whenever she might need some help from time to time to the two. However, where Vision's boss comes over for dinner later that evening, he starts pressuring Wanda for an answer to a question and then he starts choking. When Vision chokes on a Bubblegum, he acts drunk and Wanda spends her time trying to mask all the hi-jinx with clever stage props not to give away their abilities to the people in the town.
We are later introduced to a lady named Geraldine who becomes friends with Wanda and even delivers Wanda's children when Wanda becomes pregnant. Whilst nothing seems to be right in the town and people start acting weird around and with Wanda, we find out that Geraldine is an intruder and Agnes doesn't like her so Geraldine is expelled from Wanda's life. It is around this point, our viewing experience changes and we are introduced to a lady named Monica. Monica has been away from work for a while and she is sent to the town of WestView to accompany Jimmy Woo who is looking for a missing person. Discovering an invisible wall, Monica decides to force her way through the wall with the help of Darcy and her friend, but once Monica gets inside, everything changes. Considered a threat, Director Haywood of SWORD plans on forcing his way through the wall and tries to solve the problem any way that he can, even if he needs to kill, Wanda.
This is the first of many from the MCU and writing about these will be extremely difficult without giving aware some details but ultimately trying NOT to spoil the show for you as essentially, this is a long drawn out movie split into episodes brought to us on a weekly basis. In conclusion, what this ends up doing, is giving the audience seven whole days to speculate about the characters, the story, the overall story or over-arching story and the future of the MCU. It has already been told by Kevin Feige himself that, shows will tie into movies unlike before (so you can kiss your Marvel's Agents of SHIELD goodbye, in regards to canon, but the jury is still out for the Netflix shows). Kevin has also said that this show is part of a story arc that starts in this show and leads into Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, so not only is everything connected, but potentially setting up the universe going forward with the introduction of The Fantastic Four and Mutants.
A lot of time, effort and brilliant storytelling has gone into WandaVision which has set the bar very high. With things like the changing of the aspect ratio to help with story telling and the many decades of TV infused into one show as part of the narrative is phenomenal. If you didn't like these characters before, you are given around 6 hours of character development and focused storytelling to help you understand these characters on a deeper lever and the current story and/or the overarching story overall. Elizabeth Olsen is incredible as she is given a lot to work with, this is her story. Paul Bettany is also great in this show because he is the reason (among other things) why we are here in the first place. His character development and efforts here, compared to what has been done before in the MCU are more than doubled. The introduction of Kathryn Hahn and Teyonah Parris were great additions to the MCU and hopefully we get to see them going forward as what they brought to the show was beyond soo good. Excellently crafted visuals and writing, leaving fans to speculate and lose sleep with nothing but theories controlling their every move. The music was great but more importantly, the direction and execution of this show, providing you are patient to stick with it, this show takes a lot of chances with visiting areas new and old and if I'm honest, if all shows continue like this in the MCU, other studios might have to try and meet Disney's bar and surpass it, if they dare. Oh and there are post credits scenes. I mean, they did train us for 10 years! An excellent watch.
Maybe I'm looking at this all wrong. When you watch shows on TV, some of these shows have, "next week on..." and this is likely to be what is happening here. However, a big part of me seems to think that Disney/Marvel are being reactionary.
WandaVision is a huge talking point at the moment. There are podcasts about it on ALL the forums from Clubhouse to Stereo to YouTube, the Marvel Cinematic Universe hype-train is BACK! With that said, I have seen a few reviewers and such comment on the structure and rollout of this series. While I think the structure was perfect from episode 1 - 4 with the first two episodes and then onto episode 3 and then 4 weekly, there has been a lot of talk of "losing fans", "losing newbies/newcomers" and if you are not a fan of the MCU or know nothing about it and you are presented with this show first, you are likely to not be interested. To have the first THREE episode to drop and THEN onto episodes 4 and then 5 weekly would have been the preferred choice. Dedicated fans who love the MCU and what they have done over the past 13 years with 23 movies and now a TV show dedicated and set within the same universe may drive fans away. And with that I say, poppycock!
I will stand firm and say, you can NOT be a fan and NOT trust Marvel and the brilliance that is Kevin Feige. Granted, there could be an argument to say that it is possible Marvel has lost it since Endgame and the momentum and spirit isn't there anymore for a Marvel TV and film medium since we have had nothing for a while. There is an argument to be made that the BUZZ is simply not there any more due to a terrible 2020 with the pandemic and such, but if you were a fan, you would stick it out, you would wait to see how the show panned out (it's not like we have much better to do at the moment anyway due to lockdowns etc). If you were NEW, why would you start on a TV show when there has been 13 years of film and a huge story arc leading to one of the highest grossing movies of all time, actually, according to 'Newsday.com' The biggest box office hit of all time is Avengers: Endgame with $2,797,800,564 billion (i'm not even sure how to read this figure accurately), so it makes me wonder, why would someone start with WandaVision and then throw in the towel complaining like they are not going to come back!? Make it make sense!
I could be wrong, but from this mid-season trailer alone and what is now starting to unfold in WandaVision, we are now in the second act of the "movie" and we are now cooking with gas...and this trailer tells us so!

I've never seen this before, or for the most part, I've never noticed it. But this series started 2 weeks ago and they have now dropped two more trailers. An "Prepare" trailer AND "Extended Clip". I believe I have seen extended clips once a movie has been out, I think, but for a TV show? Maybe I've just never really taken them onboard to only notice them now.
So at first was baffled as to why, but since the first week of airring the first two episodes, the show has become divisive. Last week's episode, the third episode, a lot of people felt as though the first 3 episodes should have been released and I'm guessing, the reason for these two trailers, maybe, is to steer people more on track.
You see, WandaVision has a lot going on and nothing is really explained at all. The show leaves you with more questions than answers and we are only 3 episodes in. As you can tell from the previous trailers, it seems to be all sitcom styled with laugh tracks and such, but why? It has been well written, well acted and mostly, well crafted in such a way, ultimately it looks like a departure from what we know as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or at least, not what we are used to, so, I believe this trailer intends to provide just that bit more clarity needed for the confused viewer or those who haven't enjoyed the first two episodes and have bailed on it.
These trailers show that there is more going on, more that meets the eye. The MCU part of the show with a familiar character from the Ant-Man films. This trailer shows a touch more of what is going on and if the first two episodes drove people away, I hope these new trailers bring people back to stick with it. The first act is complete now, now for the bigger reveals to happen and the show to really begin.

This trailer is a lot more detailed and better than the last one and that isn't to say the ones that came before were garbage, but you get a bit more of a story beat with this trailer and ultimately, what is happening and the craziness of it all.
I've heard that this show will go through the ages of Black and White TV and the many different styles these shows had over the years, but the closer we get to modern day, the hijinks ensues whilst all the while getting more weird and weird messing with Wanda's psyche. I love this and I hope the tone changes too. Such a clever concept. It looks great.

As we are nearing to the end of September and it was only like a few days I saw somewhere that it's only 100 days until Christmas (like anyone wants to know about that right now as this pandemic has been zapping the life out of everyone), Disney are fully on their promotion of DisneyPlus and their shows. Only a few days ago we had a trailer for The Mandalorian: Season 2 and now we have this, WondaVision, a continuation of the stories post Marvel's Infinity Saga. While The Falcon & The Winter Soldier was meant to be first out of the gates in August, but they had to stop due to quarantining and lockdowns etc, WondaVision might actually be the first out since The Falcon & The Winter Soldier is currently back to filming as I type. With that said AND the fact that the Black Widow film has been pushed back from May (I think) until November (unless it moves again), THIS is the only thing that is semi-concrete enough to actually go ahead. And this trailer...GREAT!
I can see why this show might NOT be the big spectacle that some fans might want, but there are a lot of things that can come off the back of this show. It has been said that it will link heavily into the sequel of Doctor Strange. We have the possibility that it may introduce mutants into the MCU finally since the Fox Acquisition and with the different time periods and the Chaos Magic used by Wonda Maximoff, it seems as though this show will be not only the intro, but the gatekeeper, no...keymaster that will unlock the future of the MCU and this trailer to me looks like something really small and isolated, but has the possibility to do just that.
From Black and White to Technicolour, to Vision being told he is dead and the fabric of reality changing and the cracks beginning to show, I feel the second trailer will get those who are not onboard, on board in a major way.
