(trailer review) - Monkey Man

So I heard recently that Monkey Man played at South by South West (SXSW) and received a 10 minute standing ovation which emotionally moved the actor turned first time director to tears. As a Londoner, I am extremely proud of Dev since his breakout role in Slumdog Millionaire and whilst he has not done many movies, he had been very selective as to what he wants to do and at 33 years old, in a handful of movies and now directing, it would seem that directing is his passion and with the reviews this film is getting and with the backing of Jordan Peel himself, Dev may be one of the very few actor turn directors that will be revered as truly talented doing both, like a Ben Affleck, Jordan Peele and Daniel Kaluuya. This trailer is the first trailer, but dialled all the way up and it looks great!

Although I will be trying my best to not repeat the things I said for the first trailer, I actually may not be able to help it. This film looks amazing with a John Wick tone to it. John Wick was an assassin out of the game and went back in as he was seeking revenge. This is another tale of revenge and this looks stylish, funny and great. A man who looks like he becomes a fighter only to take out the man responsible for his mother's death, maybe? I am not sure, but frankly, I do not care because this is the type of action I like. Right up my street. Let's go!

(trailer review) - Monkey Man

The "younger" British talent seem to be stepping up and taking things a little further from simply just acting to directing and I love it! We all remember little Dev Patel from Slumdog Millionaire, right? He has come a long way from acting in what we Brits remember as a character from the TV show, 'Skins' with fellow actors Nicholas Hoult and Daniel Kaluuya, I have not personally seen him in much unlike the other two actors, but he is a decent actor. 'The Green Knight' was cool and very different, and I have heard so much about him in other shows and films as being really good, so seeing this trailer has brightened up my day. I have not seen many or any Bollywood movies, but when I watched Ms. Marvel, I loved the settings and scenery we got to experience in that show. Extraction with Chris Hemsworth was similar and even in a cartoon-like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, it was and is simply, a breath of fresh air from seeing New York all the time, L.A, Florida or the occasional London. Maybe this is one of the reasons as to why I like watching Mission Impossible movies because we are always in a different location and it is nice to see. With that said though, this looks spectacular.

A man, driven by the vengeful pursuit of justice against the rich and corrupt elites, possibly responsible for his mother's death, transforms into a vigilant protector, the White Monkey, determined to safeguard his community from oppression. Whereas, John Wick was simply seeking revenge for the killing of his dog which was the last connection he had with his dead wife who gave him the dog as a puppy upon her death. This is definitely my type of vengeance movie and my type of action. A thriller with moments of levity. This film looks great. The run and jump at the window you see in films all the time that break and shatter the glass when a body is thrown at it, but here, it does not and he just bounces off, amazing. That moment got a huge laugh out loud from me. The action looks very Jason Bourne, John Wick and Nobody-esk, but that is a good thing. The camera styles and angles also look great. I do not need to be sold any more on this, because if I am honest, I did not know Dev Patel had this in him, but with that said, it would be nice to have a trilogy from this character, if the movie is as good as this trailer, that is. Moneky Paw Productions...fitting.

(trailer review) - The Green Knight

What in holy hell is this!? I clicked on a trailer I didn't know about which was the teaser trailer and from February 2020, thought to myself upon watching it, "What the hell!?" So when I went to look for the trailer again to review it and saw a completely different trailer (the one dropped today), it left me with the the question I started this paragraph with! Just wow!

British actor from Slumdog Millionaire (a film I still haven't seen for some reason) Dev Patel is a Knight in a fantasy world akin to Lord of the Rings, well he looks like a knight.  I'm all about representation so I was looking out for the black folk, but I'm totally cool with Dev, he is a great actor.  Seeing Joel Edgerton is cool and the guy from Mission Impossible too.  Dev looks great in this as a Knight and with a talking Fox? Giant People? A bark headed tree man thing wielding an Axe.  This is right up my street.  The music is great as well.  Those Giant people gave me 'Attack on Titan' vibes though...this looks really really good!

Directed by David Lowery and starring Dev Patel, Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Sarita Choudhury, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Barry Keoghan and Ralph Ineson
