WOW, just WOW!!! It is possible, that a film which was meant to come out last year and people were hyped about it until they pushed it an entire year, it would seem as though the studio decided to "go ham" and actually put EVERYTHING in the trailer. In my last review I said, "I mean, ok, they don't seem to be going to space like everyone thought, but what did they NOT put in this trailer!" But hold up, it looks like they ARE going to space and they have actually put EVERYTHING in the trailer...Han as well.
I'm actually lost for words, really I am. And it's not because they've put everything in this trailer, but how long is this movie? Magnetic cars, Flying Cars and a guy's body getting wrapped around a tree. For a while the F&F franchise has been playing into it's craziness for a minute, but damn, have they gone too far? To be honest, it's fast cars, brawls and the odd "INSERT GENRE HERE" because the series has evolved from simply racing cars, but if you are looking for this kind of thing or at least what they have been coming up with over the last 10 years, then here you go, seal with a kiss or high five! I'm definitely watching it! Charlize Theron has been around for a minute and although I already knew of her from Aeon Flux and one or two others, she really popped onto the scene as an action star, more from Atomic Blonde and Mad Max: Fury Road. I absolutely LOVED Mad Max: Fury Road and Atomic Blonde was actually good too. Not many people went to see it but there is a great stairway fight and although there may have been hidden camera cuts (Movie Magic), Charlize really sold that performance, plus I love me a continuous shot. The Old Guard was a bit of a surprise for me if I'm honest as it seemed to come out of nowhere because I never heard much rumblings about it until only a month or two before it came out and now that it has dropped, I will say, the film has moments where I felt they could have done better, but overall, I really enjoyed it.
The Old Guard is about a team of Immortals who carry out missions fighting for the greater, or a cause they deem "the right cause". Being immortal makes them knowledgeable and very efficient in what they do having doing it for years. However when a new member joins the team in the midst of a secret manhunt, Andy (Charlize Theron) and her team must track down the new recruit to keep her safe, but also fight for their own lives.
The story is decent as it had some lore and a little back story. Although they do not go into much specifics on their abilities and how they came to be, I'd assume they would pick that up in a sequel, if that is honoured to them. The action is great and seeing the team work as a team was phenomenal, especially in the third act. I really like how they handled the final fight and I was intrigued with the post credits scene, although, it was telegraphed a mile away, so you can assume what the sequel might/would be about. Although the acting was great, especially from the new recruit Niles (KiKi Layne) whom I haven't seen in film or recognise, I just felt that some of the dialogue was misplaced and clunky. There is a scene where Niles says to Andy, "Who are you?" and it came across as more relaxed/inquisitive than scared and concerned, considering the circumstances.
Stephen Merrick (Harry Melling), was ok for the most part, nothing special and nothing ground breaking or compelling about his character. Ruthless, egotistical and somewhat cartoonish, following the riches, where James Copley (Chiwetel Ejiofor) was a much better and well-rounded character where you understood his motives and why he was doing what he was doing. It was great seeing Micheal Ward in the movie, he got a little screen time, but as a whole, I loved the variety of actors from different backgrounds and hopefully in a sequel we get to see more of these characters and possibly open the world up like how John Wick did with The Continental and lore.
Speaking of John Wick, this film is somewhat choreographed like John Wick but has some Matrix elements, Handcock elements and I guess you could say Universal Soldier elements to it. If it isn't clear, I do believer the film could have been executed a touch better in a few ways such as a few better shots for the cinematography, more stylised shots and camerawork and better dialogue, but if anything, these are things that can be rectified in a sequel. For example, there was a shot at the beginning of the movie which was of the country Sudan. Loved the location card, the shot of the family walking was lovely, but I felt the pan and scene could have looked more exotic or visually stunning. This movie was probably made for a pack of peanuts, Chips and a Capri-Sun, but it doesn't look like it for the most part and Netflix ought to make their money back to do another or at least I hope they do. It would be nice to get Gina Prince-Bythewood back as she did a great job. Interesting spot I noticed, Gina is plugged for both Silver Sable and Black Cat, so if this movie gets the eyes and status to have people like myself wanting more from the movie such as a sequel, at least Sony will keep her on for those movies because she is a credible director, I mean, she directed Love and Basketball.
"My ass is in fuego!" Had to be the funniest line in the trailer and I don't even know what it means.

At some stage, Dom needs to say to someone, "I'm just a Mechanic" like Steven Seagall in Under Siege. We understand the films get more rediculous as they go on, but...I...I don't know. Have they taken it too far now? Although I'm sure many of you wanted to see how they get into space...but Dom is JUST a Mechanic, albeit, with skills in practically anything and everything.
*** #Spoilers *** but they bring back supposedly dead people, stealth planes are picking up cars mid-air with magnatism, cars are getting attached to cords strong enough to hold a moving car travelling with such velocity helping it to "fly", ok, swing and...I don't even know. Maybe they have taken it too far. But I'm still going to see it. I still find it odd to tell a child whilst given them a necklace for protection, to say, "it's for what's coming"...ominus or what!? This film looks wild as hell and the fight scenes look great. A camera shot reminded me of Black Panther and/or Aquaman but I liked the usage... #sigh. Let's just hope the story is great. Can you believe we are on a Fast & Furious 9? Like, only last month we had a Star Wars 9 and that took how many years ? And the F&F franchise did it in less for obvious reasons and for the most part, has been getting better and better as the years goes on as it has firmly cemented itself as an over the top, brash series centered around family with fast cars, "racing" and beists and it does exactly what it says on the rin....and well. They even had a spin-off which was just as good.
This trailer (more of a teaser clip) is more or less an announcement for the trailer and I'm already interested.
Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) now has a family, a little boy named Brian after his late best Friend, used to be cop and antagonist. There is a passing of a Cross necklace and the worlds "...for protection for what's to come" (not verbatim). Who says that to a child? Absurdity will definitely endue in the most fun get ridiculous way when this film comes out. And we will see that when the trailer finally drops.

Margot Robbie is on the hottest streak right now. Is she the female Dwayne Johnson? I feel I will go onto her Instagram and see her bench pressing a motorbike whilst promoting another movie. In short, she is working very hard and she is a great actor. She has a bunch of movies coming out and this one seems interesting. These 3 ladies look like they will work well together and it does look like a very good story. From Charles Randolph, the guy behind the screenplay of The Big Short (a film I didn't see) and directed by Jay Roach who had been behind a lot of comedy films, I'd be interested in see this as it looks good.

I'd like to start off by saying, I do not believe I have seen a Mad Max film, ever! As you gasp in disbelief, I'd like to point out that I am completely aware of them and that I have a rough idea about the character's background, but I do not remember watching a single Mad Max film from beginning to end and remembering it. Maybe it was a touch before my time or maybe I just weren't interested, probably the latter. But this film, I will remember. This film is a spectacle.
Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy) is a Main Force Patrol Officer, haunted by past memories and some may actually deem him as being mad/insane. He is a wanderer of a post apocalyptic wasteland where most of, if not all of the Earth is a desert and civilisation has collapsed. Water is hard to come by and the people who now live on this desecrated planet are fearless, ruthless and will do anything to survive or die for the cause.
Max unfortunately, is on the run and trying to escape a situation he got himself into and once he crosses paths with Furiosa (Charlize Theron), Max has to make a choice to trust this stranger or take her out as, you cannot trust anyone in these badlands as everyone has their own agenda.
This film is AMAZING. I haven't seen any of the previous films (and I will now, due to seeing this), but this film is a roller coaster ride from beginning to end. This film was like watching Gravity for me. At the edge of my seat, eyes transfixed onto the screen trying not to dip my fingers into the salsa dip as I lose my way trying to find the nachos by being too engrossed into this film. What a spectacle. Vibrant colours, camera angles and visuals, explosions, insane looking vehicles, characters and appendages. The film is soo insane with soo many moving parts, you can't help but follow Max in his journey. There were soo many 'Oh no' parts, where I was soo into this film, I was concerned more about the characters than how I looked once I left the cinema after spilling all types of dip onto my clothes because I couldn't find my mouth.
The only thing I didn't appreciate in this film was Max's voice. Tom Hardy is a brilliant actor and I felt maybe he was trying to sound like Mel Gibson ' rendition, but I haven't a clue. When Max spoke, it took me out of the film for a moment, but it was a good thing he doesn't actually say much. SPOILER ALERT, maybe?
They call him a mastermind, George Miller. But from watching this, I understand why. Charlize was perfect as she is a great actress and the story was plain and simple with little depth to it, but with soo much little things going on at the same time, this film is most definitely something to see, especially if you are a fan of the franchise. This film is a glimpse of what is inside George Miller's mind and it is, MAD!
Wait until you see the heavy metal rocker with the guitar and the guys playing the drums. This film is just insane from start to finish. Go see it.
I'm sure, for the longest time, Director Ridley Scott said that this new film called Prometheus had nothing to do with Alien and it was merely set in the same Alien Universe. With that said and upon hearing reviews, from many people telling me this film is around about 1 out of 10 and a direct prequel to Alien. Although I needed to see this film, I definately needed to see this film now.
The film starts with this ultra ripped funny toned alien humanoid guy who is soo ripped, he could cut bread with his edges. He is by this waterfall and seemingly as if he has been left purposely, he opens this small thing which has black liquid in and drinks it, then dies. His body disintegrates leaving his DNA "seeding" the Earth. For some people, the film should have just stopped there.
So, as the film goes on, the story revolves around archaeologist couple Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and Charlie Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green) discover a star map among several unconnected ancient cultures who interpret this as an invitation from humanity's "Engineers". These "Engineers" created Humans and is believed to have invented other species of life.
Peter Weyland, the elder founder of Weyland corporation funds a trip to an unknown distant planet's moon LV-223 to seek out the existence of these "engineers". Once on th planet, everything goes to shit.
So, without going into anything and spoiling the film, the film plays out like an old script already done. There are a lot of unexplained events and questions in which Ridley Scott has explained (noted on wiki) he will address in the sequel, if they are lucky enough to make one, but with that said...a lot of people think this is a direct prequel to Alien although Ridley said this is a stand alone film. He has also said that the film will appear more as a stand alone film in the possible sequel.
The cinematography is excellent and most of the acting was very good. I really enjoyed David (Michael Fassbender)'s character because his mannerisms and character, I found entertaining. He reminded me of a little child, always touching things, but was also very intelligent. He often found things very facinating. Other characters such as Janek (Idris Elba) and Meredith Vickers (Charlize Theron) were pretty much standard charaters but offered more character than the other actors. This is possibly due to the whole story thus far and how it wasn't great and kind of left you feeling like...OK, Ummm, But if you have seen any of the other Alien films (excluding Alien vs Predator), the film kind of leaves you off, like Meh! Entertaining but not ground breaking at all. Nowhere close to an all-rounder. Maybe, if a Trilogy is done, as a Trilogy could be deemed as a great story
