(trailer review) - Toy Story 5

There is one thing that I know and I know for sure, that Toy Story is one franchise that has been going for as long as it has, and it has never dipped in its quality and storytelling. Each and every film has got better and better, with a story that can be told to children as well as adults, with laughs from both children and adults. There may have been some grumbling around the announcement of Toy Story 4 because you had a great trilogy, but the folks at Pixar said, "No. We have more story to tell," and Toy Story 4 was complete, watched, and it was great. I guarantee you that there has been some grumbling around a Toy Story 5, and that maybe they are milking the franchise now, but if there is anything we have learnt with this franchise, they always hit, and hit well.

This trailer shows us a box being delivered to the house with shots of the characters we know and love scared at what the new toy may be. We see Mr & Mrs Potato Head, we see Rex & Slinky, Jesse & the Horse, 3 Aliens from the claw machine doing Speak No Evil, See No Evil and Hear No Evil, and the shot that keeps making me giggle is Forky, who now has a partner who is a knife. The Box is open, and it is an electronic device like an iPad, a Tablet for children, and knowing how children are essentially glued to these devices, I completely understand where they are going with this. Pixar have its finger on the pulse, and I am not sure if they can go anywhere else after this, but this might actually be really great. Let's see what the official trailer is saying down the line.

(trailer review) - Lightyear

 

Here's something funny!  I heard about this a while back and although I've seen the thumbnail picture a couple times, this was not something that had stuck with me so ultimately, I completely forgot about it.  Now, upon watching this trailer, I'm legit taken aback with ALL THE DAMN QUESTIONS!!!!

Whilst I knew the voice was going to be Chris Evans, this trailer had me asking... "Is this like another Toy Story?", "Is it considered a Toy Story Spin-off", "No, wait...this is the Buzz Lightyear that the Buzz Lightyear toy is based off of IN the Toy Story Cartoon movies, right?", "Wait, Pixar!?!", "Does this mean we could get a Woody?"  I had ALL the questions!!! But upon watching this trailer, although very "word-less", this trailer looks great. I'm loving the animation and I would love to see the Buzz Lightyear character and his universe which doesn't pertain to the Toy Story movies, if that makes sense.  Also, I got a slight Final Space vibe from it.

(trailer review) - Luca

First of all, there was a teaser trailer for this not soo long ago and for whatever reason, I didn't review it! I specifically remember telling myself that I must review it, because I saw it, but I guess among many distractions or simply because the trailer  didn't grab me, I didn't end up doing it. With that said, it goes without saying that I liked this one, right?

This trailer had me anxious though. Two fishmen, mermen maybe? want to experience life on land than their natural habitat, the sea and they meet a girl and go on an adventure of sorts? Who knows until the next trailer is dropped, but I kept thinking throughout this trailer, theses guys are going to get caught which left me a little on edge. They are by the sea and any type of water makes them change! ...let's just hope things do not get too intense and start sweating. It looks decent. I'm up for it!

(short film review) - Canvas

Around October of last year (2019), before the impending doom that was the Corona Virus hit the world, I decided to review new or current running streaming/TV shows as they come out.  Ones I'd obviously watch and enjoy or at least take an interest in.  Some shows came to a finalé and others were in their second/third season.  While this had to be some great foresight I never knew I had because ALL I'D BE WATCHING IN THE NEW YEAR IS STREAMING MOVIES AND SHOWS...lol. So I guess it worked out to my benefit.  Something to give an opinion on as Cinemas are closed.  But to review a short film, a film that is barely even 10 minutes is a bit of a stretch but I guess, why not.  The short film had something to say and so do I!

Canvas centres around an elderly man who is a still-life painter.  It would seem he has painted his whole life or at least, it is something that he loves doing, enough that his granddaughter comes to visit and also displays talents in drawing.  However, this elderly man has lost the passion for art for reasons I won't go into, but as this short story plays out, in just less than 10 minutes, we discover the the reasons why and if he is able to enjoy painting again.

This is a beautiful short film.  Silent with sound effects and no actual words.  The artistry of the drawings and how the animation is animated, the detail, amazing.  I'm thinking if Toy Story 4 was more detailed than this, but I am unsure.  This short film might be boring to some as there really isn't much to it, but the themes do hit and there is something to be said about the story or message behind this little short film.  Bound to evoke some kind of emotion.  Granted I don't think I could deal with a longer version of this, maybe more characters etc, but I do believe this short film did what it was aiming for.

Imagine, I tried not to spoil a just under 10 minute short film and I may have actually succeeded....maybe.

(trailer review) - Soul

Disney is Skynet.  I mean how many movies are they realeasing a year?  From the studio that brought us Inside Out (which was good and I enjoyed), Up (which was also good and I enjoyed) and Coco (one I didn't see but heard it was really good) these guys do NOT drop the ball.  I saw Toy Story 4 which was excellent (as per usual) and Incredible 2 (which was seemless after all these years and very good), it's just interesting where they are going to go with this movie about a black teacher and musician who falls down a manhole/sewer drain and possibly dies.  It's a little dark but a lot of these cartoons are.  When the brother died in Big Hero 6 (SPOILER ALERT - after the fact, I know), that got me hard!!! Let's see what they will do.  I feel like it will have a great message behind it and be VERY uplifting.  I feel the tears already.
