(episode review) - The Last of Us: Episode 2

This week we start with a flashback of the few days before the outbreak and a lady is having her lunch in a restaurant which is interrupted by a soldier. He tells her to come with him to a destination where she is asked to inspect the body of a woman who was acting weird. They discovered a bit of mark and a possible infection but needed her expertise to clarify and confirm their findings. Shortly afterwards, the doctor and the soldier have a conversation about what should be done going forwards and her response was dire.
Another bleak intro again sets up how this show shows us the audience, the world and their reaction to an infected and incurable person. The tension builds up slowly in these scenes and the room with the body is just nasty.


After the opening credits, we focus on the party going forward consisting of Joell, Ellie and Tess. They have only found out about Ellie's condition, so they are both sceptical and quiz Ellie and her importance. While debating on what to do and wanting to complete their task, they set off deciding on which route to take for a safer and easier journey to their destination, but when one potential route is blocked, they take another which brings them into a museum where they stumble into infected.
Chilling and tension drove where we get to experience some great acting in a scene with very little dialogue. We get to see an infected up close and how vicious they can be, their strengths and their weaknesses. Another great moment underscores the position the world is in and how one must navigate through it.


In the last moments of the episode, they finally get to their destination, but things do not run to plan. No one is there, there is no trade-off and both Tess and Joell have a conversation about what to do next.
Without going into spoilers, a great moment between the characters and while I had a feeling and knew what was going to happen, to see everything play out was amazing. To get more information about the infected and how they work/operate in this world was terrifying. These small little character-building moments however brief help to build out the characters more and more which helps to make the show gripping. Another excellent episode.

(trailer review) - Scream 6

I think my issue with the franchise at the moment is, why are these 'ghostface' masks still being sold. Also, if people are being killed over a period of time, would these masks not be seen as illegal?  I do not understand how we are soo far into a franchise where a cloak and (at this rate) a famous mask used for killing can still be used to, well...continue killing. I understand the masks are not made for killing people, but it is the main mask people have used to kill people over the span of 10 to 20 years, no? I think I will need to watch the franchise again from the very beginning and include Scream 4 (as I have not seen that one, yet) and see how these new films are interconnected. I have noticed how the recent Mission Impossible movies have been interconnected with each other and also draw from previous films which helps the viewer/fans become more invested in the franchise.

This trailer is decent though and I have no complaints. Is her name Sydney? She's toast in this one to let the newer guys come in and take over, but I had fun with Scream 5 (maybe due to the moving rollercoaster-like seats) the film was fun, although there were some plot points and story bits that did not make a lick of sense, however, I went along with it as I was heavily invested. I did not realise Wednesday herself, Jenna Ortega was in Scream 5 because I did not recognise or notice her until I watched Wednesday and then saw this trailer. Let's see how all this pans out. Strangely enough, I was off of the whole Scream franchise when it got to, Scream 3 or 4, I cannot remember which one I stopped at, but it was just too much and boring at the time. You are trying to force a franchise, that is how I felt, but something about Scream 5 got my attention and I was interested and I actually enjoyed it. Also, that Josh Segarra is the killer, I am calling it here and now. So, let's see, aye.

(trailer review) - Shazam! Fury of the Gods

Warner Bros. is in a bit of a dead space right now where it is difficult to know and understand the future of DC and its characters. Back in the day, they wanted to start a universe with various characters like an MCU, but Green Lantern did not do well and Christopher Nolan wanted to ground his Batman films. This in turn pushed DC back a few years until 'Man of Steel' came about. Trying to catch up to the MCU at this point was a very bad idea and now we are in a state of limbo with decent films, ok films and really good films in a universe that seems to be crumbling from within and at the seams. The first Shazam was decent and I really enjoyed it. I liked the dynamics, between the actors and the characters and it was an overall great film to sit down with some popcorn and watch.

This trailer looks like the story here is bigger in scope and in some cases, may actually involve the Marvel family (or shazam family) dealing with a force that looks like they are ill-prepared for and lack experience. The villains look decent and I am guessing this is your old run-of-the-mill, bad guy who wants to take over the planet, but the fact there is a fight with a dragon is wild. The Khaleesi line was hilarious and the film looks like it is going to carry out the same or very similar jokey tropes and comedic lines as the first movie, but I am here for a bit of fun. I think my only drawback with this movie is the why and the what. What is this movie doing in the DCEU right now, where does it sit and why continue with a movie (which was already shot before these new decisions were carried out) to potentially scrap the franchise? I think The Flash movie (barring the shenanigans actor Ezra Miller has been getting up to lately) will retroactively make changes to the universe that will help set up the future of the DCU (or DCEU) going forward because we are still having an Aquaman movie or simply shut down the universe to start anew. 
I will definitely go out and watch this movie as it does look like fun, so let's see what happens going forward. Hopefully, it is just as good as the first movie.
