(trailer review) - Superman

There are going to be people who are going to dislike this trailer.  Whether they are Snyder fanatics or people who dislike James Gunn because they dislike the MCU, or because they dislike his films, but cannot construct a coherent and sensible sentence to say why or how. Do not get me wrong, not every director's sensibilities and the way they direct a film is for everyone, and I understand that, but I often think that these are the same people who would complain about Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker, until that film came out and he killed it. I would not be surprised if there was an uproar from people when they saw the first trailer of Man of Steel, because people will always have something to say. Not my Superman! Superman would not do that! So on and so forth. It happens EVERY SINGLE TIME! So with all that said, this trailer looks GREAT!

First of all, we get a bit more context as to what is happening or just a bit more frames added to some of the scenes we have already seen, ie. the stadium fight where Superman seems to suplex the person he is fighting, the Kiju fight where Superman is flying through and around the flames it is breathing out, we even get a line from Mr. Terrific, but at the beginning of the trailer, we have the main villain of Superman, Lex Luther talking about how Superman is the most powerful being on the planet and how he is going to destroy him, kill the reporter he always does interviews with, kill the parent who raised him, Lex just wants him gone and it looks like he is stopping at nothing to do it. Judging from the very first trailer, we had Superman wheezing and battered on the floor. With the context of this trailer, I can only imagine Superman will overcome all of this, and James Gunn will show us what makes Superman Superman. Even Guy Gardner says to him, "Make a move, big blue". This looks like it is going to be a really well-thought-out, acted, directed and fun movie showing us who Superman really is and why he is who he is, and I do not think you can really be mad at that, but I am sure someone will.

(trailer review) - Wicked: For Good

If I am going to be real honest with you, this trailer did not blow me away, nor did it sell the sequel to me. Labelled as an official trailer, and not a teaser, I am not sure if the trailer did what it was meant to do, and that is, to make me excited about the movie. Don't get me wrong, I've seen the first movie and I absolutely loved it! It was so well done. I've seen the stage play, many many moons ago and I enjoyed it then too, again, so well done, but seeing a bunch of Monkeys chasing Elphaba, is not IT, unfortunately and if anything, I am more sold on watching the movie, on the back of seeing the first one.

I love how the trailer starts with Elphaba doing her best Batman and Commissioner Gordon meeting and it is interesting to see that Glinda is still open and honest with her, they are still friends, but Elphaba seems to be hellbent on a revenge quest while the "Wonderful Wizard of Oz" is still trying to be master manipulator and gas lighter. Seeing Dorothy and the gang is really nice to see them follow the yellow brick road, but I wonder how the story will pan out, especially with the 'Wizard of Oz' storyline seemingly coinciding and running parallel. Maybe the second trailer will be better for me. And that "I'm off to see the wizard", maybe because that phrase is so embedded in our heads from 'The Wizard of Oz' and the song, it just felt a little forced than an easter egg. We shall see, but I am definitely interested in seeing this movie.

(trailer review) - Alien: Earth

The Terminator, Predator, and Alien franchises have all seemed to have died. Studios, trying to one-up the last project to make it bigger and better. Convuluted storylines or a lack of one, each project seems to have died a slow death. The Terminator franchise, currently, for all intents and purposes, is dead, but in the last few years, The Predator and the Alien franchise have been resurrected, and new life has been breathed into them. 'Prey' was excellent, and off the back of that, two more Predator movies are coming out, an animated and a live-action, and Alien: Romulus was also just as good. Due to this Alien project coming out relatively soon after Alien: Romulus, it seems as though this show was always on the cards no matter how good and badly Alien: Romulus did, but judging from this trailer, this looks like it is going to be a great show, or at least, it looks really good.

So it seems as though we will be following this sick girl who will have her memories transferred into a synthetic, and you have this other person, possibly a scientist or rich kid, who wants what is on the ship that crashes down on Earth. I am not sure if I missed it in the trailer, but I am assuming it is a Weyland ship, but they state, the ship has collected creatures from the darkest corners of space which makes me think (as well as them showing in the trailer) we will get the xenomorph we all know and love, but there were a few quick shots of other alien creatures. Dependant on if these creatures survive and/or are written well to be just as terrifying as the Xenomorph, the universe that is Alien (and Predator) has expanded in a way, they may do other movies (likely) or shows with these new aliens in them and maybe an origin or where they came from, maybe even, a team of scientists discovering them. This show looks really interesting, and the tone of it is precise. It looks clean, but retro futuristic like the original Alien movie and the special effects look great. I really like the Alien franchise, so it would be nice to have this show be a really good watch.

(trailer review) - Fantastic Four: First Steps

I decided to watch this trailer just to be nosey, really. There has been some online chatter about the film not testing great and that the film came across as just ok, with the testing audience, so I was wondering if they were going to show anything else to help sell the movie for people, and they did. But to help sell, I guess we will see, but I liked what I saw.

Seeing Sue leaning over a baby's cot and the voice over stating whatever life throws at them, they will face it together as a family, with shots of Ben Grimm pulling a ship in the sea, the fire in the sky, Johnny flaming on and then more shots of the Fantasticar driving in the street and then driving/flying in the air is just great. Seeing a bit more of the celebrity status the family have and the speech from Reed Richards stating that the Fantastic Four are the planet's defenders and that they will protect the planet. Even the line of "is it clobbering time?" got a little shout out whilst we see the same scene of Ben running through the building's structural pillars. Ha! It is a nice little 1-minute and 15-second trailer, showing us a lot more, but just enough and not overstepping the mark, just to let us know that tickets are on sale. I am doubtful about Reed saving the planet, but I am definitely interested in how the story will go. And it's Marvel, they need another win. Thunderbolts was a win, this also needs to be a win
