It is really bad for me to admit this, but I saw the first Nobody movie and really enjoyed it. That is not the bad bit. The bad bit I am now admitting is that I even wrote part of the review for it, and I had been trying to finish my review and post it here. Days turned into weeks and weeks turned into a couple months, and I was still going to post it and back-date it, but, it is only until this trailer and now that I write this review about the sequel to the movie I really enjoyed, is when I realised that I never finished my review for the first movie. I feel bad now, and I just went to double-check to see if it is still sitting in drafts, and it is! With that said, this trailer is great, and it seems it will follow the lead the first movie (the one I really enjoyed) took and is completely running with it. I mean, if it isn't broke...
So, it is another day and the protagonist, John Wick's uncle (let me check out Nobody's name), Hutch! You know, as soon as I read it, I remembered hearing it! Anyway, Hutch is going on a family vacation with Doc Brown in tow, and it seems like, whilst on vacation, he stumbles into hurting a bunch of fools, while he cracks the backs of all those he touches. That elevator scene is definitely a homage to 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier', but did you see that Harpoon gun arrow thingy-ma-jig? Maybe it is not a harpoon gun, but whatever it was, it is a "now you are very messed up and possibly dead-gun or thingy-ma-jig". The Whack-a-Mole, the environment being used to mess these guys up. THIS trailer is what this film is about. Pure unadulterated violence in a way, very few movies can do and have done. And it seems like a really good popcorn flick! Let's just hope Derek Kolstad has done it again. And if you do not know what I mean by that, here is a hint...he is the writer for John Wick 1-3, the first Nobody movie and a few episodes of 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier'. Whenever you get him or any of these two, Chad Stahelski or David Leitch, we are onto something very entertaining.
It's funny. If you were to ask me "What are your favourite films?", I would probably cite 'The Royal Tenenbaums' before anything and likely stop there. It's not the only film I love, but it's always the first to come to mind. However, the Die Hard trilogy and Alien trilogy are also up there, but I wouldn't necessarily mention those. I say that to say this, this trailer reminds me of, 'Smoking Aces' a film I also love but completely forgot about and a film you are not likely to have remembered or seen...also 'Seven Psychopaths', a film I absolutely loved. I believe I even wrote a review on it a while back. Tone wise, this seems like the fit.
Brad Pitt, is someone who can do comedy and action pretty well, I think of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, but this trailer is just excellent through and through...and the cast. The cast! I'm going to check the cast list in a moment, but isn't that the voice of Scarlett Johansson? Is that Jamie Lee Curtis? I'm likely to be wrong and i'm going to have to freeze frame some of these scenes but I know that is Brian Tyree Henry who is absolutely doing amazing for himself and seeing Aaron Taylor-Johnson AGAIN in another unrecognisable role, I'm starting to wonder, has he been in other films and I never noticed him in it? Everyone after a suitcase and will kill for it on a bullet train. I am already sold on this trailer! Oh yeah, that was surely Zazie Beets too. I just hope this film is as great as the trailer or i'm going to be pretty disappointed.
Directed by David Leitch and starring Brad Pitt, Joey King, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Andrew Koji, Hiroyuki Sanada, Michael Shannon & Benito "Bad Bunny" Ocasio

Ok Michael. I'm sure I can address Mr. Bay as Michael at this rate. I've never been one to shy away from saying what I dislike about Michael Bay's directing and have also labelled Zach Snyder as a better Michael Bay than Michael Bay, but I'm pretty sure I've said somewhere that occasionally, just occasionally, Michael Bay will pull out some great movies from time to time. I'm not going to rack my brain as to which movies I can pull for example, other than Pain & Gain, for now, but he DOES have it in him than glorified swirling shots and unnecessarily explosions. The fact he got two (arguably) great actors, in their prime, dropping nothing but great content of recent, I have to be involved with this movie, regardless of how I have felt over Michael Bay's directing of late....plus Yahya right now might even be considered to be the hardest working man next to or has even surpassed Dwayne Johnson at this point!
Two brothers, adopted brothers, (I think of the Four Brothers movie) and it seems as though, the premise is, they grew up together and are very close but having both served in the military, one is trying to pay for medical bills for his wife whilst the over devises a plan to get the money and more in a heist which goes wrong. They hijack an Ambulance with a cop inside in critical condition and a medic working on him, they try to use the Ambulance to evade the police, maybe even save the policeman inside and simply escape unscathed, alive and what they came to do, get the money to save the wife. And although I said swirling shots etc, this movie has Michael Bay all over it. I mean he is quite great with the camera, but I kid you not, if this movie didn't have Jake and Yahya in this and any random actors, I wouldn't be too bothered about this movie. To me it looks like Four Brothers, mixed with Baby Driver and Speed and if I'm honest, that intrigues me.
Directed by Michael Bay and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Eiza González

Due to the panini, the pandemonium, the pancake mix, the pancetta or whatever we want to label last years infamous word of 2020, the Pandemic, movies went on hold for an entire year. Of course there were a few that tried to come out and didn't do too well, Bloodshot, Tenet etc, (although having not seen Bloodshot, Tenet WAS the better film), we are currently being inundated with trailers and movies and if I'm being honest, I do feel some films are really going to feel the wrath of a scared and concerned people. People do not want to go into cinemas due to risking catching a case of Corona Virus 2019. Movies such as Black Widow has not grossed the money it would have normally on opening weekend and rightfully so, because no one really wants to go to the cinema...oh, and Disney released it also on Disney+ at the same time. People are being more selective about what they are coming out of their homes to watch. With that said, right now, cinema's are pretty empty and NOW is the perfect time to go. Also, with that said, we need a reminder of which films are coming out so we can make that choice. The Protégé is that movie...maybe.
This trailer could have been better. A 33 second clip with Samuel L. Jackson and Maggie Q is great but where was the action? Where was the Drama? They could have at least included 10 more seconds of flash imagery of the movie. I felt this was lackluster and the fact they spent money on this leads me to believe the movie won't actually be that bad since the studio put some money behind it for this trailer...it's just that, this trailer doesn't do much to get people out of their homes to want to watch it, you know? Maybe the studio will drop something a bit more substantial and meaty before the movie is out.
Directed by Martin Campbell and starring Maggie Q, Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Keaton

This trailer wasn't great, I'm not going to lie. It played a lot of what we have seen before in previous trailers and whilst that is a good thing not to spoil a movie giving away everything, I also felt like they have in fact, given away everything in this trailer. For some reason I felt as though this trailer was very hollow.
The cool bike scene seems to have been extended a little and there is a burning building which could be the very end fight scene, but they really didn't need to give away the Storm Shadow reveal, as one, I didn't know he would have been Storm Shadow and would have probably like to have seen that in the movie, and two, to also work that out in the movie. I saw the white suit and instantly thought Storm Shadow and then he says, "Call me Storm Shadow". That's likely the very last short in the movie. I feel like they are clutching at straws after this trailer but let’s hope the movie is really good and they haven't given everything away in the trailers.
Directed by Robert Schwentke and starring Henry Golding, Andrew Koji, Úrsula Corberó, Samara Weaving, Haruka Abe, Takehiro Hira & Iko Uwais

At the end of the trailer, it says Snake Eyes and in very small it says G.I. Joe Origins. I guess that is a way to tell people that this is part of the G.I. Joe franchise so people won't be confused. However, I'm not even sure if that is a good thing! Could Snake Eyes make that money without it being "linked" to the G.I Joe series which has been for the most part, pants!? I guess we will never know now, but Bumblebee was a great film, but because it wasn't titled Transformers: Bumblebee, there is an argument to be made that, the movie just was not recognised and people didn't know what it was so they never saw it. It's a tough one because everyone remembers X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but then, don't we just want to see ninja's fight? Sometimes the trailer sells itself, no?
With that said, this trailer has definitely sold me. A man with no real family working at a fish factory saves a fellow worker/friend and is taken away to have a new life, trained and to become a ninja. Doesn't everyone want to be a ninja? It kind of write itself, no? I'm getting a little bit of John Wick 3 vibes from this and I love it. Those motorcycle chase scenes look great. I'm not sure if it could beat motorcyles and a horse chase but we will see. Directed by Robert Schwentke and starring Henry Golding, Andrew Koji, Úrsula Corberó, Samara Weaving, Haruka Abe, Takehiro Hira & Iko Uwais

I had no idea this film was coming out. I literally stumbled upon it when I went looking for the trailer 'Old' by M. Night. I saw Wahlberg and instantly thought, "Is he not in the new Uncharted movie, what is this?" So I decided to watch it and here we are.
I'm not too sure about this movie at all. The trailer starts off well and then you have a sequence with these cars driving through things and essentially, that's it. The plot sounds like something we have seen a thousand times, so I'm hoping for more, especially as we have the great Chiwetel Ejiofor with a great accent. It reminds me of Bourne Identity and for some reason The Highlander and maybe a touch of The Old Guard. It's like, I like it as it has promise but this trailer doesn't fully sell me on it, so we will see. I guess Antoine Fuqua is the only real promise here.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, Mark Wahlberg, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sophie Cookson, Jason Mantzoukas, Rupert Friend,Liz Carr, Toby Jones & Dylan O'Brien

For some reason I feel there has been a delay with this film. You know when they are trying to get something off the ground but it's in production hell? Maybe it's all a fabrication in my head but guess what? I'm happy to see it!
What is this, 59 seconds of ninja? Correction! 59 seconds of ninja badassary? Yup! All American hero? Ummm, yeah ok, but a lot of us want to see ninja stuff, right? I know it as Action Force before knowing it as G.I. Joe and if I'm honest, as a child it was all about Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes. So with this reboot, I'm guessing...we are getting just that, Storm Shadow vs Snake Eyes!
As long as it's better than Batman V Superman, I'm fully involved
Directed by Robert Schwentke and starring Henry Golding, Andrew Koji, Úrsula Corberó, Samara Weaving, Haruka Abe, Takehiro Hira & Iko Uwais
I forgot about The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard and Samuel L. Jackson being in that, so now that I've seen that trailer, reviewed it and now seeing this one, I instantly thought in my head, "Sam is doing a lot of work!" The fact of the matter is that actors can do many movies in a single year, but it just depends when they drop, so sometimes it seems like one actor is in 6 movies in a single year when really they were shot at different times over a number of years. At first it seems wild, but it's good to keep busy, you know. And Maggie Q, to me, just hasn't been! I have not seen her in a while and whilst I know the name, I cannot at the top of my head recall a movie she was in last. Regardless, this looks good.
I do feel Sam is a little too big of an actor so it is a little difficult to see him in one-off movies playing side characters and not think he's Samuel L. M.F. Jackson, you know? But strangely enough, I was definitely getting 'The Hitman's Bodyguard' vibes but more 'The Long Kiss Goodnight'. One of my favourites by the way. It looks like he dies too and maybe a revenge quest but adding 'The Batman 1989' himself, the great Michael Keaton who, well...to whom is also massively famous, but not as larger than life as Sam, in my humble opinion, I can see him as this antagonist (so it seems) and not The Vulture or Birdman...damn three winged creatures in a single sentence...lol. From the studio that brought us John Wick and the Director of Casino Royal, I'm sure it's meant to guarantee awesomeness, well I'd hope so, as it does look good.
Directed by Martin Campbell and starring Maggie Q, Samuel L. Jackson and Michael Keaton

Wallace cannot do anything wrong at the moment as the calibre of his acting seems to outshine any movies he is in. Without Remorse is not a terrible movie, but it IS NOT something we have NOT seen before. A man out for revenge. What is more important or what will make these types of films stand out more, is the approach. Let's take John Wick for example, stylish, every shot is a head shot or eight and it alludes to a grand universe with lore and background as the movies went on. John Wick seems rich within the world it is in whilst remaining gritty and hardcore. This movie, whilst nothing like a John Wick and thankfully, nothing like a Max Payne, Michael gives us what he can with a post credits scene hinting at more to possibly come.
Senior Chief John Kelly is in the US Navy SEALs and as part of a rescue mission in Syria, but due to withheld information or the wrong intel, the captors ended up being something they weren't. This eventually leads to all the members of the rescue mission being killed including John's pregnant wife as collateral damage. When John makes a recovery from his attack, he vows to seek revenge without remorse taking matters into his own hands as he is one of, if not the best US Navy Seal there is, but with the mistrust from the Syria rescue which resulted in his wife being killed, John takes on a mission to seek the truth around people he is unwilling to trust.
This film is nothing special but it does have some really great scenes in. From the opening scene, the house scene is also great. But the best scenes in this movie are the flaming car scene you see in the trailer, the prison scene with the sink and the aeroplane scene, especially the aeroplane scene, you'll know it when you see it. However, with a bland story, these scenes only do just enough to make this film entertaining. Camera angles, sets and while the mystery has much to be desired, I feel the villain was too obvious which let the film down. I believe there should have been possibly an extra 20 - 30 minutes added to the movie to add some more twists and intrigue, but from the moment you see a specific actor, the movie pretty much lets you know what is going on.
Michael B. Jordan is excellent in this and next to Michael is Jodie Turner-Smith who also helps carry the movie and seeing her in some action was nice to see a black woman, in the military, high ranking and in the field. I feel like I have not seen that before. Two black main characters with Jamie Bell, who is always great, make this film really watchable and it is a hope that these three characters can come back for future movies. The post credits scene alludes to that and it is a hope that maybe they will go bigger and better next time around. As these things are adapted from novel's it might be best to add that little bit more to them or if there are bits cut from a novel for the film, to add those bits or vice versa. There needs to be a bit more to these movies because as well they may read on paper in novel form, translated into movie is ok, but in some cases and especially this case, is just not enough. No one really wants to walk away from watching this movie saying "it was alright!" especially with the calibre of these superb actors.

First of all, from the trailer, I was already sold on this movie, but having watched the movie, finally over 3 days because I got distracted or fell asleep, I'm glad to say, I enjoyed it, BUT it could have been better.
Having started to watch this movie, I was definitely getting vibes of 'The Other Guys'. Because The Other Guys is a comedy starring Mark Wahlberg and THIS is a comedy starring Mark Wahlberg and both characters are Police Officers, I think my mind may have wanted MORE The Other Guys kind of humour, so with the movie NOT having that, it deflated the movie a little for me. But obviously, that is a personal thought as well as a personal choice.
Disgraced Spencer (Mark Wahlberg) is a former cop who beats up a fellow Police Officer and ends up doing time in prison. Upon release, he is met with Henry (Alan Arkin) who takes him home only to find Spencer is now room-mates with Hawk (Winston Duke). But, when Police Officers start to die not even 48hrs of his release, Spencer makes it his job to find out who is killing these cops and why.
It's not a complex storyline at all and you could probably figure out the plot, blow for blow and who the villain is just by how telegraphed the movie is with it's basic plot, but for the most part, the movie does what it says on the tin. It's an action comedy film and it does that. I actually found the comedy to hit. It's also done on a low budget as I think about it, as I'm sure there is literally, 1 explosion and hardly any special effects, but in a strange way, I still very much enjoyed the movie and had fun with it, mostly because of the humour and also due to the performances of Mark, Winston and Iliza. Granted the last two wasn't given a lot to work with, Winston being somewhat subdue and Iliza being a feisty motormouth with attitude, so some more character development would have been nice. But this is clearly Mark's movie, Spencer and everyone else is supporting. I do enjoy seeing Bokeem especially as I saw him recently in 'Queen and Slim' and before that, 'Spider-man: Homecoming'.
As I think about potential sequels as the film ends alluding to Spencer getting into people's business, it would be nice to see some more movies with these characters. Kind of like what John Wick did. A simple premise but excellent execution. Not to say Peter Berg known for The Kingdom, Hancock, The Losers, Lone Survivor, Deep Water Horizon and Patriots Day, I feel his directing wasn't excellently executed unlike other films he has made in the past, although, leagues better than Battleship. I mean, as we won't really know how much this movie makes... Netflix, if you enjoy it, spread the word as it's on Netflix and if anything, let's say it makes between 35-50 million, they must be able to do a sequel as this movie is at least half that to make. Maybe in the sequel, we could have more character dynamics and witty banter. Oh and especially more Iliza.
I've dumped on Michael Bay a few times and it isn't that he is a terrible director because I absolutely loved Pain & Gain, but he often drowns the audience in loud brash sights & sounds. Don't get me wrong, when it's necessary, it works, but for the most part, it doesn't. It's dated and he really does need to up his game when it comes to the action shots and story because he is a very competent director. Nobody wants to see a fire hydrant blow up in huge flames when a dog pisses on it. Pretty much his style of action, because it "looks cool". And some of his "Comedy" is questionable, not to mention the stereotypes he sometimes portray in some of his movies, i.e The Transformers franchise. Moving forward, the irony of watching THIS movie which was NOT directed by Michael Bay like the first two, is that Michael Bay could actually learn from these directors Adil and Bilall because I believe they did an excellent job of directit a Michael Bay movie, better than Michael Bay using Michael Bay-isms. I'll explain.
Bad Boys 4 Life picks up 17 years later and Mike (Will Smith) and Marcus (Martin Lawrence) have continued to be the Bad Boy super crops that they are, but time is ticking on and they are getting old. For Mike, he wants to be a Bad Boy until the wheels fall off, where Marcus has had enough and wishes to pack it all in. However, when specific people start dying around Miami and disrupt their flow, these detectives, must investigate, but the past can always come back to bite you and push you to the limit. Mike and Marcus have to stop this imminent threat that threatens their lives.
I really enjoyed the first movie and the Second movie was really good too. However, the second movie was a little too long and Michael Bay had his trademark signatures all over it. Yeah, it made it entertaining, but it was really annoying at times and a departure from the original. However, this movie incorporated some of the Michael Bay-ism, but with more class. It's weird but when you see it, you will see it.
The action was great, the story was even better, but the comedy was soo much better than I would have expected, especially when you think about how old this franchise is. At they past it or are we over it? And the chemistry of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, do they still have it. An action comedy as it is labelled, but the dramatic scenes were very touching. A benefit this movie also has, is the history behind it. If you grew up with this movie back in the day, you feel for the characters and what they are going through. There are some moments where you WILL question, "How old are these guys, STILL doing what they are doing?", but as they also address that in the film, the story moments give you more of an insight into these great characters where this movie is practically 25 years deep and still going strong. Well it was a little wobbly after the Second one but this one brings the bar back up and if I'm honest, I NEED to see more of these two.
Will Smith's acting is great, but who would have thought any less...but Martin...Martin Lawrence is soo good, he literally carries the film on his back and you completely get his character, Marcus. The main antagonist was a little one note, but the villain was pretty decent overall and not as mustache twirling like how other villains have been. A little fleshed out but it would have been nice if we get some more depth with future movies as the film definitely lends itself to a sequel especially as they introduce a handful of new characters.
Overall, just a really good and feel good movie. It is possible that Bad Boys has finally hit it's stride like the Fast and Furious franchise. Imagine if they were in the same universe...makes sense, no?
Guy Ritchie has always been one of my favourite directors. Not because he is British, but because his films are intelligent, fun and pack enough elements to make for an interesting movie. Unfortunately, I do feel that Guy has taken a departure from what he became famous for. Films like 'Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels' and 'Snatch' are seen as his greatest work. He did 'Revolver' and 'Rock n Rolla' and those didn't come as close to the brilliance of Snatch and Lock Stock, but Rock n Rolla' was really good when compared to Revolver. Guy also did a bunch of other films but other than, 'Man From UNCLE' and the Sherlock Holmes series, people including myself wondered if Guy still had it. Aladdin was good. Aladdin made over a billion, but Aladdin ISN'T Guy Ritchie. So, what about this new movie called 'The Gentlemen' which looks like it could deliver to us the Guy Ritchie from Lock Stock, Snatch fame? Is this the return of Mr. Ritchie? I actually think so. I'll Explain.
The Gentlemen is about a man Micky (Matthew McConaughey) who has built his success and wealth from the growth of weed and distribution in a time where very few people were doing it. As a drug kingpin who wants to retire and leave it all behind, word gets out and people come from all over to take over his business. But in the mix of it all a reporter is trying to get the scoop on how Micky became the successful business man he is by also trying to link situations that has happened and piecing it all the information to build the full story.
I almost gave away a few plot points trying to write that because this movie is soo cleverly done and soo all-over-the-place, you will find it difficult to understand the direction of this movie for a moment only to have Ritchie bring it together. Imagine watching someone draw or paint a picture and you know what the picture is meant to be they are drawing, but they start with the most irrelevant images or sections of the painting and go backwards and forwards to other parts of it so whilst you are watching the mastery, you are trying to follow the artistry, but as soon as you think you begin to see the full picture, you are led in a different direction thinking, maybe you were wrong about the direction you had previously thought, only to be led back. It's magic and Guy did it again!
The acting in this movie is superb. Everyone has a role to play whether small or big but the dialogue is also great which brings us to the Snatch and Lock Stock days. Great cinematography and great scenes. Colin Farrell, Charlie Hunnam, Michelle Dockery and Henry Golding were excellent. Huge Grant was out of this world and I loved it. Even UK Rapper Bugsy Malone was decent and a shock to see to be honest. But who was an even bigger shock, was Franz Drameh from 'Attack The Block' who seems to have been relegated to background character like who he was in 'Edge of Tomorrow'. It was a little upsetting, but he isn't doing too bad in AppleTV's 'SEE' with Jason Mamoa and to be in a Guy Ritchie movie, that's something. Would be nice if some of these characters could come back for a possible sequel.
I'm not sure if I could gush about this movie any more without giving away spoilers. I left the cinema happy and pleasantly surprised wanting to see it again because it felt fresh or a lovely rendition of something we have seen or experienced before but with more than just a new coat of paint on it. Maybe something 'The Force Awakens' kinda did, but didn't. Yeah it's Star Wars, but with a new coat of paint. This is, yeah it's Guy Ritchie, but he has levelled up. Not only is the new paint great, but everything else has got a considerable lift bringing enjoyment in every way visually, with the dialogue and with the story but maintaining the Guy Ritchie stamps without it feeling like a rehash of something old. And to say this film is funny, is an absolute understatement. This movie is hilarious and exactly what you'd expect from this type of Guy Ritchie movie. Let me not even go into the music side of things...#sigh.
There is NOTHING bad with this movie and I really do hope Guy is currently drinking some Earl Grey writing a sequel because it IS very well needed. And if not a sequel, how about just another hit movie like this to be his Snatch to his Lock Stock.
Ok, this JUST came to me. IMAGINE, just imagine..., Guy Ritchie brought back some of the survivors and older characters from Lock Stock, Snatch and Rock N Rolla' in a sequel to The Gentlemen or anither film and made it one big shared universe. I dare you to not to geek out.
I have a love/hate relationship with Director Michael Bay. I mean he is the man behind the original Bad Boys movie, Pain & Gain and a very small handful of great movies and a handful of very successful movies that print money that has no real story or plot, but helps catapult Michael to a position where he can make films like this.
To be fair, this is not a TERRIBLE movie, per say, because of actors like Ryan Reynolds, Ben Hardy and Corey Hawkins who hold the film up with decent dialogue on a substandard script and plot. So for the most part, from what you get in the poster is exactly what you get in the movie, but if you were hoping for something very entertaining, funny, with a good storyline, heart and thought provoking, well...2 out of 5 is only 40% which is, not even passable, but then, you came to the wrong place. Let me explain.
One (Ryan Reynolds) is a millionaire tech guy who has made millions from his work, but is now declared dead and now operates as a ghost. A Ghost is someone who can operate anywhere at any time throughout the world to carry out vigilante operations no other teams can. One is the leader of his team effectively called number one and he has 5 other people who are also known as numbers. However, when his latest assignment involves the taking down of a dictator, the mission turns out to be more problematic than first thought.
The storyline is waste, if I'm honest. You just don't care for it. There is no tension. Just a hollow as hell movie. However, the action, nothing but action on top of action on top of action and for the most part and that was the only thing I was interested in as it was violent, a little graphic but with cheap gore, blood spilling everywhere and crazy deaths. Some of the dialogue was great with possibly loads of improvisation from Reynolds as he is definitely the stand out. His character reminded me of the character from The Hitman's Bodyguard and Blade Trinity.
The movie is loud. The movie is high-octane action. The movie is very stunning with amazing shots and beautiful locations with very stylised action and cinematography and wardrobe. It was practically Transformers but with actual humans and no robots as the vibrant colours seemed too bright for modern day life. Like "who wears that going out?", but the ever so flamboyant Michael and his nonsensical decisions and outlandish slow-motion shots and 360 pans, almost upskirt angled shots. For the most part, some of these, maybe one or two could be nice, but when it is relentlessly throughout a movie and then to add the unnecessary explosions to it, it just becomes...waste, really. Like what is the point. The Fast and Furious Franchise does Michael Bay better than, Michael Bay. But if this is your thing, go for it.
I wouldn't go cinema for this, I'm glad it's on Netflix.
Ugh, Michael Bay. As annoying as Michael Bay's directing can be at times, the super slow-mo, small bonsai trees spontaneously blowing up in huge explosions to eclipse mountains, the pan-around shot around a character and in some cases, just dead dialogue; upon hearing about this movie for Netflix on a Netflix Budget (new lingo - Netflix Budget), I immediately rolled my eyes because, well I didn't care for it at all. I like Ryan Reynolds and I loved Pain & Gain and the first Transformers Movie which was good-ish, but the rest got borderline racist among other types of nonsense. And although the Transformers franchise made money, they were for the most part, simply piss-poor. A far cry from Bumblebee (not directed by him), Bad Boys & The Rock. And now it looks like Bad Boys 3 will be in the same vain as Bad Boys 2 than 1 and that's likely because of him, so I hope this new set of directors surprise me.
This trailer though, I'm not going to lie, tickled my fancy. And although THERE IS a SLOW- MOTION PAN AROUND A CHARACTER shot, I did actually like the trailer a little. Just a little. I mean, it looks stylish (as usual). The scenery looks beautiful and there are some excellently breath-taking shots and we have Ryan Reynolds, Ryan Reynolds is a WIN!!! Plus, a Special Ops team who are literally the walking dead. So, I'm hoping for the best really. In Michael Bay we don't trust, but we hope.
Directed by Michael Bay and Starring Ryan Reynolds, Mélanie Laurent, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Peyman Maadi, Adria Arjona & Corey Hawkins,
Ok ok ok...first of all, wow. Secondly, Tim Miller....My Guy! I wasn't that keen on watching this one but I am a Terminator fan from when I was little. I've seen all of them. And while some are not great at all and some are better than others, none really captured tension like Terminator 1 or 2 did. Don't get me wrong, Terminator Genisys wasn't terrible, captured tension to an extent, but it felt more like bigger and grander in explosions and action etc, atthough I manage to enjoy it, apart from the twist at the end among the other things that let it down. But for the most part, to me, it was better than Salvation and definitely better than Rise of the Machines. This one, not only gave you vibes of the first two, this one had me under soo much stress.
Dark Fate picks up 27 years after the events of what would have been Judgement Day. Robots in the future are losing the fight against humanity in the future, so once again, they send a Terminator back to the past to kill whomever it is they see as a threat in their timeline, Dani Ramos (Natalia Reyes), by wiping them out in the past. Ultimately, this leads to the return of Sarah Conner (Linda Hamilton) continuing her fight for a better future with the help of an advanced human named Grace (Mackenzie Davis).
Thirdly, the movie starts immediately in the opening credits where talking is being heard and it is soon to be revealed that this is the interview scene from T2 where Sarah Conner flips out. Mild spoiler, but I feel it is justified in saying this to let you know that James Cameron is fully invested and involved in this movie, although he isn't directing it. The explanation of Sarah Conner being back was great and made sense to the overall story. The storyline itself actually made sense to me which led to some of the most touching and greatest moments in the movie involving the T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and Sarah Conner. The new Rev-9 (Gabriel Luna) is a sight to behold. Sometimes when I watch these advancements, I wonder how far they can actually take it, I mean, after liquid metal, what else can you do? How about liquid metal which can split into two Terminators? (relax, it's in the trailer - Sorry if you haven't watched it) I mean, technology and society has advanced and these Terminators sure have too. This leads me onto Gabriel Luna as the Rev-9, who is just as menacing as Robert Patrick from Terminator 2 but has more charm to him. One of the main stars in the movie Natalia Reyes did a great job as Dani Ramos and although there was a moment in the movie where she actually had a little moment, the film had a very steady/fast pace that kept you on edge. The quiet moments are slim to none, but when you have a killer robot named a Terminator, Rev-9 Model, I mean, those quiet moments are going to be very, very small considering the world we live in now. Arnold was excellent in this too. His relevance was good for the story and if they DO think about doing a sequel, this could possibly be the last we see of him. He looks GREAT in the role and he also reminds us how robotic, funny yet dangerous he is as the T-800, Model 101. Mackenzie Davis is just as badass as Linda back in the day and playing an enhanced human (super soldier if you will), was good to see and her moves and fighting skills were great. She proved to be a great foil to the Rev-9, it is unfortunate, the character has a great shortcoming that, to me, made her trip back to the past, irrelevant to an extent.
Also, just so you are not confused to whether this is a kids movie or not, swearing, blood it's all there. The swearing (in which I don't mind), although more than what I'd normally hear in movies that are produced for children for toys etc, this movie does not hold back. There was a moment where I blurted out a few expletives when the action sequences ensued. Tim Miller didn't hold back and this made me happy. I would say the visuals were good and there was a water scene I wasn't 100% on, but by that point, I was already sold on the movie. Maybe there is an explanation to the scene and how it played out but meh, whatever.
If you are a fan of Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgement Day, I cannot see why you'd dislike this because to me at least, we are back on form, but where we go next, is a mystery. Enjoy
Apparently this movie has been in 'development hell' since the 90's as it was written then. It does show. Yes, this film does little-to-nothing to raise any bars whatsoever as we have seen everything they throw at us in many movies before, so you definitely know what to expect - unless you expected a 'Bike-Slap!', I mean, I've not seen that before. But as to why this movie never came out back then, is beyond me and Ikinda wish it didn't. This movie seems to be getting mixed to negative reviews also, but for me, I quite enjoyed it.
Henry Brogan (Will Smith) is the best there is. The best there ever will be and he works for the government as an assassin. However, after his last assignment, the aging assassin decides to hang up his sniper rifle and go into retirement. Whilst in retirement, Henry finds out his own government has put plans into motion to take him out by using his former agency, a secret black ops unit codenamed 'Gemini' ran by Clay Varris (Clive Owen), to place an operative out into the field to take Henry out. Henry is now against an operative with an identical skillset, who is younger AND faster than him.
First off, I watched this movie in the Ang Lee advised HFR format and although Ang Lee has these great ideas for film and is a great director, this format didn't really work for me. The HFR format reminded me of watching soap operas like 'Home And Away', so watching Will Smith walk around and interacting with people, just felt out of place. With that said, not only did the visuals look out of place, but Will Smith 2 also looks a little off in places. In the darker lit scenes, neat perfect, but in the lightened scenes, horrible. But I'm not sure as to why Ang Lee wouldn't use the De-Aging technology the Marvel and Star Wars movies have been using. Young Michelle Pfeiffer, Kurt Russell and Michael Douglas look amazing, so why wasn't this used? Is that technology only owned by Disney themselves?
Anyway, providing you can look past the visuals a bit and some of the clunky dialogue, the film isn't doing anything extraordinary but it provides an ok story with great action. The fighting and chase scenes were great, especially one including a motorbike. I also found Benedict Wong and Mary Elizabeth Winstead great as supporting cast where the former provided light comic relief whilst the other was just a bad-ass side-kick. The final act fight scene was quite intense and was also very good. A few holes in the story but when the movie was finished, I wanted more. It would be nice to see what they could do with a sequel as this movie is very Jason Bourne-esk. The only problem, as of the date of me reviewing this movie, not a lot of Americas have watched this movie...so, I guess we need to count on Europe and China to pick up the pieces, hopefully. I mean, it had promise.
I'm a 'Die Hard' Fan! So, I was in absolute shock and horror when I watched 'A Good Day to Die Hard'. Although I enjoyed the movie (I probably somewhat felt compelled to, as John McClane is my favourite movie character), but 'Man Like...' Mike Banning showed us heroism at it's finest! Man like Mike was avoiding death and saving the day, just like John McClane would and refusing to die. However, Olympus Has Fallen was the better "Die Hard" movie of 2013 and deep down, that really upset me.
The sequel to Olympus Has Fallen, London Has Fallen is easily forgettable. All I can remember from it is that, they were in London...yeah, like 'no shit!', and not as good as the first and now a dying franchise because the sequel didn't live up to the original - not even close.
But Angel Has Fallen! This is a different film to the last one or better yet, has a better story and better action than the last one as it seems, the 'has Fallen' franchise has now found it's feet. Angel Has Fallen could actually be the NEW 'Die Hard' movie...The 'Has Fallen' Franchise. What is going to fall next? To be honest, if they made 'Kremlin Has Fallen' or something of that ilk where Man like Mike was vacation-ing or taking the President on a presidential trip somewhere to sign some papers for world peace or whatever and they get under attacked wherever the meeting is held up and Man like mike has to figure out a way to evade the terrorists and keep the president safe with nothing but action, action and more action accompanied with near death in nearly every action set piece and some cunning, I. WOULD. NOT. BE. MAD. AT. THAT. AT. ALL!
So, Man like Mike (Gerard Butler) is with the president (Morgan Freeman) whilst the president is on a fishing trip, however, the president comes underfire from drones. As the President is placed into a comma from the incident and DNA from Man like Mike is found at the scene with the control panel for all the drones, Man like Mike is now an enemy of the state and he is a fugitive of the run doing the best he can to keep himself alive and prove his innocence.
Something we have all seen before, right? 'Enemy of the State', 'The Fugutive' so on and so forth, but none of them had Man like Mike - The John McClane of his franchise who will narrowly escape death and save the President at the same damn time. This was a loud and entertaining movie. I knew who the bad guys were and that is something they could probably work on like a Mission Impossible with some double/triple agent stuff for the future, but I hope they decide to do another 3 more before Man like Mike retires or dies in service. Funny in places and a simple story we have all seen before but executed well. If you like loud, boisterous all guns blazing type of action, kind of like the Fast and Furious Franchise or Die Hard Franchise, then you will like this. Nick Nolte is a gem!
The F&F series has had its ups and downs.
When Tokyo Drift came out, putting a slight spin on the series where the
franchise “drifts” and attempts to change direction, they needed something
different and a change in pace. It was
when F&F5 (Fast Five) when Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson (Franchise Viagra) stepped into the fold and
joined the franchise. The F&F series got a lot better.
I’m not ashamed to say I’ve seen all of the F&F movies and Tokyo Drift was
the worst of them all (It just wasn't as good). But with some
well written interwoven stories, the order the films coming out, is NOT the order
you should view them which makes for interesting viewing. But I say all of
that to say this. Branching out into a
spin-off of the F&F franchise, like what Transformers done with Bumblebee,
but failed on the title, this movie not only benefits from having Fast and
Furious in the title, (because if you are a fan of the franchise, you know what to expect), but the movie also benefits from being as absurd, crazy, silly
and unbelievable as the regular F&F movies and on top of all that, this film doesn't take itself seriously and is very
funny and entertaining.
Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Deckhard Shaw (Jason Statham) are two completely different people who are very
good at their respective jobs, are from two different worlds and they hate each other. After the events of Fast & Furious 8, these two are paired up to stop a man named Brixton Lore (Idris Elba) who will stop at nothing to obtain a deadly virus that threatens to wipe out the human population (not that original, more Mission Impossible-esk). However, things become a bit tricky when Deckard's sister (Vanessa Kirby) is involved somehow and caught in the mix of it all. Our two "heroes" have to "play nice" with one another in order to achieve their goal, Stop Brixton!
How do you think this film would play out by watching the trailer below? The one you've already seen or the many you have seen before watching this? Or, if you have seen the latest few F&F movies but not seen this trailer, what are your thoughts? Yes, it plays exactly how you thought. It does exactly what it says on the tin and then some - only because it was a little bit long in the tooth. But with the surprise cameo or involvement of 2-3 other characters played by well known actors, this movie treads from being your normal F&F type of movie with a few laughs and inhumanly courageous death-defying stunts and lunacy to all of that and a barrel of insanely funny comedy moment's that may have you wet yourself or die of laughter. They even threw in a few known wrestlers.
The acting for this type of movie by these quality actors are very good, as expected and as to be expected (no oscars here). The story, meh..who cares!?! The villain Top-Notch, especially how Idris plays him, plus his name is BRIXTON!!! (I'm from London England, Brixton is literally down the road. [It's a place, look it up] But it's a wonder why he never chose any other "close-to-home, towns). The chemistry between Dwayne and Jason is pretty much unrivalled and their banter, they have banter for days. The visuals are excellent especially the fighting scenes. There is a shot where the rock has a fight very early on involving, a woman...excellent, visually. I'm just hoping there were no strings involved. But then the ending fighting scene, visually, also stunning. I didn't dig the ending THAT much and how it ended, but it was interesting how they left it, definitely open for a sequel....as they do in Hollywood. I guess when they do their female spin-off and should that do well...they would have successfully milked the cow by the tit and produce liquid gold. Let's just hope it's more quality than quantity before they destroy themselves over money.
If you are a fan of the franchise this is a definite must watch. But you would need to know that Vin Diesel's character or better yet Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson, DO NOT GET ALONG AT ALL!!! So with that said, you can't expect to see Dominic appear in the Hobbs & Shaw spin-offs, unless they squash their beef.
However you can expand the universe outwards and involve other characters and have many different mini franchises under one franchise. I believe that's possible.
Chapter 3. Where this, now trilogy, should close the story
of John Wick and his quest for vengeance leaving him to live a life as a
retired hitman in the tranquillity he sees fit. It’s like, after every movie, you reminisce back to how we got
here. How did it all start? His dog was
murdered, he avenged it.His car was
stolen, he retrieved it.The only thing
John has a problem getting back, is his retirement, as finding his was back
into the underworld of, well…let’s call it, The Hitman Society has proved to
cause more harm than good.Well, more
dead bodies by The Babayagga, but we won’t get into that just yet.
In case I haven’t explained why I love these movies
properly, I’ll break it down. John Wick is just like an 80’s or 90’s film
where, titular hero, John Rambo? John McClane? John Matrix, even? Take on
hordes of enemies who are trying to kill him and he survives. It’s about suspending disbelief where some
elements of the movie may seem unrealistic, but you enjoy the ride anyway. The story might not be Oscar worthy, but you
enjoy the ride anyway. In most recent
years, there hasn’t been much movies, if any that recapture the glory decades
of such films. Some over the top
violence, one liners and such, other than the ones that are trying too
hard. Some may argue that the Fast and
Furious franchise is among them, but that’s family *he says in his best Vin
Diesel voice* and his name isn’t John, it’ Dominic.
The John Wick franchise is the 80’s and 90’s action movies,
compressed into an up-to-date, stylish romp with lots of imagination trying to
be as realistic as possible. If you can
watch a superhero movie which is largely based off of the comics, bar a handful,
then you can watch Mr. Wick escape certain death, repeatedly.I mean, John McClane wouldn’t Die Hard…well,
until they ruined the last one in 2012.Let’s see what the latest instalment will do, if they ever get to it…I
hope not, with that Year One premise.
Anyway, back to the movie…
John Wick is now excommunicado losing all access and privileges of the Hitman
Society with a huge 14 million bounty on his head after the events of the last
movie. He is literally a dead man
walking.The continental is off limits
as well as any friends or allies he once worked with as they are all included
in the worldwide broadcast and may want to collect the reward themselves.John must stay on the run, avoiding death,
literally at every corner to seek a meeting with The Elder, the person at the
head of the High Table to negotiate some sort of deal.
This movie does not disappoint from the previous movies and
if you have made it this far watching the previous two, you are already
enjoying the ride.I feel as though the
movies just get better and better as they give you nothing but fight scene
after fight scene after fight scene after brutal kills after fight scene after
more brutal kills after even more brutal kills, book fight, horse fight, bike
fight and if not, ALL kills ending with a headshot or two at the continental,
of all places!The action.The Visuals.The comedy.There are places to
nit-pick, if you must, but it doesn’t take away from the film as a whole,
because the film’s pacing does not slow down.Well, apart from the desert scene, but other than that, nearly every
scene is soo masterfully done, you may want to frame certain shots.I didn’t even mention the dog fight, di I?
if you were a fan of the previous movies, I don’t see you coming away from this
movie with negative thoughts as they simply expand on what came before and take
it that much more further. The director Chad Stahelski, has only made 3 movies and the previous two were John Wick movies, so he is definitely
on a roll.I’d say that, due to the
movie being a ‘Chapter 3’, is an absolute MUST that you see the first two
previous movies as they continue from one another and you might just be confused
otherwise, because the film expects you to have experienced the previous movies
and not even try to hold your hand with any narrative or exposition at all!
Go watch it if you are a John Wick fan! If not, watch it after you see the
first 2 at least.
