(film review) - Ted 2

So, we have a sequel to a film about a grown man and his childhood talking teddy bear named Ted. Sometimes I wonder, how people think of these things. Then I wonder, "Ok, fine. So the movie did well, so why a sequel? I'm sure that isn't going to work the second time around." Well, let me tell you.

We are 6 months since the previous outing and not a damn thing has changed, well, really.  Ted (Seth MacFarlane) is living with his girlfriend and John (Mark Wahlberg) is living a lonely life without Lori. However, as Teddy is having issues with his wife, Tami-Lynn (Jessica Barth), he decides to marry her and have a baby. The only one problem, Ted isn't considered real or better yet, he is not considered a real person. So, John and Ted must find a way to prove Ted can be considered a person with the help of a lawyer named Sam L. Jackson (Amanda Seyfried).

What can I say about this film other than, people will ask me if this film is better than the first one, in which I would reply, "Ummm, I think i preferred the first one more, I think i need to re-watch it". But with that said, some films are soo amazing, it doesn't matter how long since you watched the original, you know straight away which one was better. In that case, I'd say, "no".
Remember when you watched the first Hangover film, everything happened organically. Then you watched the second film and then thought, WTF!? To be honest, this second instalment in the Ted franchise is good, I had some good laughs, but for me, just like The Hangover Part 2, just doesn't quite hit the mark like the first one did.

Sometimes, some films should just be a one-and-done but, they wanted to make a sequel as the first one did soo well. Doesn't mean you should follow through with a sequel. Although this sounds bad, I did fully enjoy the film and the comedy and even some of the running gags throughout the film. Just like the first one, stupid, silly, but funny. However, I simply can't state that this film is better than the first film, though you might disagree with me. It's likely you'll enjoy it, but, that's just it for me. It's kind of a seen this, done that feel. Mark is funny and so are the supporting actors, you gotta love Morgan Freeman, but other than that, that is it. Maybe it's my sense of humour or how I feel with Seth MacFarlane and his characters and stories. Sometimes I feel he is reaching for a laugh. A bit hit and miss with me. There was a google gag that ran on for too long and the most funniest moment in the film for me was Marks computer folder, other than that, meh! Definitely go and see it though, if you like the previous Ted and/or you like MacFarlane and his work.

(film review) - Gangster Squad

So, late last year I was watching an IGN reviw about something, I can't remember right now and it was mentioning films to look out for. I believe it was someone talking about Peter Jackson 'The Hobbit', then went on to say, Ironman 3 and a few others I simply didn't care for or remember, but Gangster Squad stood out.
I remember seeing the trailer and thinking, "Damn, this looks interesting" So, I set out to watch it and boy did I find this film, a very good watch.

It stars then child Goonies actor, Josh Brolin (I had to say that as I think that is amazing and he has come a long way) as Sgt. John O'Mara who is personally selected by chief Bill Parker (Nick Nolte) to take down Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn), a rising to power gangster in post WWII Los Angeles. In order to do this, John must get together the finiest men and form the Gangster Squad in order to help him take down L.A's most powerful figure against his reluctant wife Connie's (Mireille Enos) wishes. To take down Cohen and his merry men, John bands together men of different skills and uses: - Detective Coleman Harris (Anthony Mackie), Wire-Tapper Conway Keeler (Giovanni Ribisi) & Gangster Killer Max Kennard (Robert Patrick). That is basically it. John heads out to first cripple Mickey's Buiness, then eventually cripple him and put him behind bars.

Now this film is nothing we haven't seen before as I'm sure you know there are hundreds of Gangsta movies based on this era. You know the outcome (unless there is a spin thrown onto it) and frankly, you'd watch it just to see how this Gangster film delivers. And boy does this film deliver. Action, action and action from the moment the opening credits stop rolling. Actually, I don't even think the opening credits were rolling before you saw something happen to this guy. I won't say what. Then Something else happen to another guy. It was all going on, just to show you who was the man about town. Tyranny I believe the word is. And John's assemblement was so well chosen, thinking about it now, it was like watching The Avengers, without the superhero flashy colours and powers and replaced with tommy guns, pistols and sticks of dynamite. Granted the film may not make as much as Avengers did and may not appeal to everyone, but for me, this film was just as good. Serious bits. Sad bits. Sexy bits and ACTION. Through a few parts of the film, i was cheering or making excitement noises like 'Ooooooh' when Athony Mackie did anything. The film was very well scripted, acted out and the direction and flow of the film was steady. No boring or dull moments and a few laugh out loud moments, you know LOL!

If you like gangster films there isn't a reason you shouldn't like this.

(film review) - Ted

A story about a grown man and a Teddy Bear. Ummm, yeah. I'm sure if this was pitched to you, you would be disinterested and think, what a load of codswollop.
Well, being from the creative mind of the man who brought to you, Family Guy & American Dad, I'm sure you would think otherwise.

John Bennett is a grown man living with a Teddy Bear called Ted, a live, living, moving, eating, walking and talking Teddy Bear. Having been in a long term relationship with his partner Lori, John hopes to Marry her but realises that his now dirty, vulgar and obnoxious wastrel bear may need to be kicked out and find his own place as John needs to move on.

Without going into the film too much as it is something you will be able to gather from watching the trailer that this film is stupid, silly, but funny. However, what would you expect from Seth MacFarlane. That is the general gist of things and what you will see in the movie is love, friendship and a lot of obscene things along with foul language and all you would be able to do is, shake your head in disappointment and walk out or shake your head laughing and crying at the same time.

Fans of the forementioned TV Shows will love this film. Me personally, I found it really good but it was almost like watching an up-to-date Cool World movie fused with Family Guy & American Dad and this would be the birth child. Also not being really into Family Guy or American Dad, I guess I didn't find it as funny as others. There are some shocking scenes and even a moment for tears and a lot of WTH's (What the Hell) but most of all if anything, there will be times in which your mouth will drop open, but you will enjoy it.

Have a watch, it's a good entertaining film.
