(trailer review) - Oppenheimer

The last Christopher Nolan movie did not go down too well due to many MANY things. We are talking about the film, Tenet. Personally, I really liked the film, but I firmly believe, Chris Nolan was being too arrogant and full of himself, demonstrating how great of a film director he is and what he can do as a storyteller, because in the end, during a pandemic he ultimately fell on his face when I am guessing, he could have avoided it. See my Tenet review as to why. However, this movie looks great. It is giving me Stephen Spielberg-esk vibes and does not seem to be wrapped up in the sci-fi or time theme of it all. If you have not noticed, Nolan seems to have a thing for time.

The man who created the Atomic Bomb. This is a chance to learn more about the when, the how and the why. Imagine, being the person who could create such a devastating device. I guess it was a different time back then and we are yet to find out the answers...maybe, but to look back at it now, I am sure there are a lot of people who are appalled and disgusted by what man has done. The world is a crazy place right now and there are wars going on, but to think, during a time of war, a country (or a few, we will see) decided, we need something to completely eradicate the enemy and their forces...and you are the guy who comes up with the idea. A definite must-see for me.

(film review) - A Quiet Place II

Emily Blunt is one of my favourite female actors right now.  I cannot remember what I first saw her in, maybe Looper with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis, but she was great in that.  Another film she was great in was, Live. Die. Repeat and from that point, I knew I would pretty much love her in anything she is in.  Of course I had seen the first A Quiet Place movie and I loved it.  It took me a while before I saw it, but when I did and heard about the sequel, I was 100% down.  But is this a good sequel?  Yes, yes it is.

Picking up from the events of the last movie, the Abbott's family continue on their journey to look for other survivors.  Evelyn travels with her deaf daughter, son and baby until they bump into another survivor.  Now knowing how to incapacitate the creatures, Regan conjures up a plan to pass on her knowledge to others which means travelling to a radio tower to pass the frequency on to help weaponise it against the creatures.

There is nothing more I can really say about this movie without spoiling it, but I really enjoyed this movie.  I loved how it started because I was not expecting it, but how it starts shows you exactly what you are getting into immediately.  It's a crash course of what to expect.  If you hadn't watched the first movie, the opening scenes scream at you that, no noise is to be made or you are pretty much dead.  It's brilliant.  There are scenes where we have a perspective and it is quiet, which bring us a contrast of action in silence which was really cool, very few films incorporate silent action into their movies.

As the movies goes on though, there is one or two bits I didn't like and wondered how something was possible or how someone knew something, etc, unless it was just instinct...but for the most part, I loved that they touched on the fact that, in a situation like this, outside your family unit or maybe even within your family unit, monsters can be anywhere and anyone and you cannot trust anybody.  What makes life in this world difficult, is not to make any noise and that is where ALL of the tension is coming from. Can you imagine travelling to your local corner shop without make any noise? I guess it sounds simple until everything around you is quiet.  It's like when you are creeping in the dead of night.

Whilst some might not like this movie because it doesn't do much different from the first movie, but you do get some progression with the Abbotts family and their story along with perspectives of other's in the same situation.  I doubt you would hate the movie if you have seen the first movie, but if you do not like jump scares, this will not be the movie for you.  If you did really enjoy the first movie, there is a chance you will love this one, although the movies does split the story between the characters, you are never not bored and kept at the edge of your seat.  The acting is also excellent from every cast member and although the children have grown a little since, it really doesn't mess up the story or the feel of the characters.  If John can get another on the way immediately , would be great!

(trailer review) - A Quiet Place II

(Final Trailer)

(Official Trailer)

(Teaser Trailer)

To say I am gassed for this movie is a huge understatement!  Have you seen the first one?  Have you seen 'A Quiet Place?'  While everyone a few years ago kept talking about "Bird Box, Bird Box", A Quiet Place makes Bird Box look like 'Finding Nemo'.

Intense, thrilling, on the edge of your seat horror we have been waiting an entire year for because it was meant to have come out in March 2020, but the Pandemic said "No!"  I've been waiting too long, I've got to watch this and this looks soo good.  John is REALLY REALLY running in that scene! Like that is fear running at its finest! None of that Tom Cruise suff...lol.  It's about time.  Cinema, here I come!

Directed by John Krasinski and starring Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe, Cillian Murphy & Djimon Hounsou

(trailer review) - A Quiet Place: Part II

(Official Trailer)

(Teaser Trailer)

A few weeks back, they dropped a teaser trailer for this movie and I loved it.  It didn't show much other than letting the audience know, we are moving seat from the farm house.

This trailer is great.  There seems to be some flashbacks as we start the trailer with Emily Blunt driving.  Knowing what we know of these creatures, they are attracted to sound, so driving would be a huge mistake.  The trailer then shows our family trying to navigate without makking a sound until they trip on a trip wire and are required to run for survival.

From what I can tell from this trailer, the movie seems to be very The Walking Dead esk and it doesn't seem you can trust anyone as it ends with "There are people out there worth saving", "The people that are left, are not the Kond of people worth saving".

I. Cant. Wait.
Yes. Please. And. Thanks.

(trailer review) - A Quiet Place: Part II

I remember when Bird Box first came out, I watched it and I really enjoyed it.  The film was very well received and it was well revered by most to even spawn plenty of meme's and challenges, but little did people know, there was a film called 'A Quiet Place' which came out earlier in the year which was similar to Bird Box, but soo much better.

Quiet Place was about a family living in a world where sound brings on the arrival of these monsters/things that kill you.  So, imagine traversing the world trying to be a silent as possible and not be killed by these things.

Where the first film was fairly contained to a singular place, a farmhouse, this teaser trailer shows our family moving away from the farmhouse to the beyond.  It's only a teaser trailer, but I am excited for the follow up movie as the suspense, tension, quiet moments and the sheer cleverness of this movie is great.

Actual trailer suppose to drop in the new year.

(film review) - The Dark Knight Rises

I've said this before and I will say it again, people will always compare, it's human nature. With that said, I completely understand why this film has mixed reviews.

Let's put this film into prospective. Everything about this film is Human. What I mean by that is, throughout the Nolan Trilogy, Nolan was able to bring a fantasy character in a semi fantasy universe alive in the real world to make it seem real enough to be believeable rather than fantasy. With that said, this is why you don't see a character like Clayface or Poison Ivy. I mean in a real world, how would this work? Marvel have successfully translated this in the films leading up to The Avengers, but I'm more curious as to how NOLAN will make it work. Some people already proclaim him as a God and watching his films, damn. I digress.

So, without a shadow of doubt, Heath Ledger's Joker stand's tall among all the character's in the Dark Knight Trilogy, but with the success of the second movie which virtualy paid for the world to keep spinning (I joke - The Avengers took that mantle), the third film is somewhat slightly lack-luster and less action paced.

I'll explain.

After the "Death" of Harvey Dent/2Face, Batman was blamed and took the fall while prisoners under the Harvey Dent Act were sent to Blackgate Prison for their crimes. The death of Harvey Dent held heavy on Chief Commissioner Gordon's head and this also led to the next 8 years of guilt for the chief as well as Batman retiring and Bruce Wayne becoming a recluce within his Mansion.

For whatever crimes Bane (Tom Hardy) is convicted of, he manages to escape and make his way to Gotham to basically crush it along with Batman in the process. Batman only arrives on cue as Selina Kyle/Catwoman (Anne Hathaway) appears which then triggers a series of chained events leading to Bane and Batman battling it out.

Things get a bit trying for Batman as well as Bruce Wayne which is where both Bruce & Batman are to rise, from the ashes as it were, like a phoenix and defeat the bad with good triumphaning over evil and defending the people of Gotham in the process.

You'd think this could be explained within two hours. However, this "two" hours (regular film time) is dragged out in such a way, for me personally, the extra 45mins or so actually felt like a 2 hour film until you look at the time afterwards. For me, the action was evenly paced with the drama but compared to the previous film, there was not enough explosions, fire and random anarchy/carnage in which the Joker (Heath Ledger) provided and more drama this time around. Alot more stress pain and torture in this film. Bane is a totally different character and one who, in the comics, puts Batman through his paces and out of comission by breaking his back.
In the midst of everything that is going on, young cop John Blake (Joseph Leonard Gordon-Levitt) is the only one guy who represents what Batman and Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman) used to stand for and the one person who actually does a lot to save the day.

For me, I took this film on it's own merit and after reading a few stories and background surrouding this film, I completely understand how the film was directed and why, so that not any one character would stand out more than the other, i.e Joker over 2face or any other chracters in The Dark Knight. Not to say that oscar winning performances are dubbed down or ruled out, but the main characters are somewhat more evenly stretched and play very good parts.

The bottom line is, this is a great film and no one should expect this film to be better than the last film. as the dynamics of the chracters involved are very different from one another. If you like Batman, you will definately enjoy.

(film review) - Inception

This is a film you may need to see twice, but if you generally understand the concept, then you'll pay attention through the whole film and still ask yourself the inevitable question at the end.

That question is, "so, was it real or was it a dream?"

A lot of people have their pwn interpretation of the film and some would say that it was real and wasn't a dream. Some people would say it was a dream. Me on the other hand, I'm just going to remain quiet until I can see it again.

This film is nothing from short, nothing from linear, nothing from simple and nothing from half-arsed! When I say Christopher Nolan makes a film, what I mean by that is, from screen direction to music, everything just seems epic.

Just to give you an idea of the film. Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) designed a machine that enables himself and his partner Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), to perform corporate espionage by entering the subconscious minds of their targets, using two-level "dream within a dream" strategies to "extract" valuable information. As "extractors" they carry a "totem" which has a special and personalized behaviour which is only known to the owner. This object is used to determine if they are within another person's dream.

The problem is, you may not know if your are in a dream or not. Behaviour patterns change within people or the "reality so, if you feel you are in a dream, you'd take out your totem and use it to determine reality. Dom wants to extract information from Cillian Murphy but needs a new Architect because an architect with personal issues will never be able to get the tasks done. This problem arises after Dom teaches a young gifted and smart architect how to think outside the box and manipulate their dreams but then realise that a certain woman keeps appearing in every inception. This is Dom's Angry wife. So as well as Dom trying to fight his own personal demon's and reach his main goal, he has to uncover the truth and also gain his goal the best way he can without too much trouble. Obviously, there is much more complications that arise when you are in someone's dream who realises they are dreaming. Moreover, when you are not in control of the dream and other people are.

This is a definate MUST WATCH! Even buy it on video if you have too.
