(trailer review) - Black Adam

(Teaser Trailer)

I was not really a fan of the first teaser for this movie, but this comic-con one is soo much better. The last one, the music was not great and I just didn't like it. There is more action in this one, albeit, short, but it seems to be a lot better and I do like the tone. Before I was a little concerned about where the movie takes place, but I no longer care as I just want to enjoy the movie.

This trailer is a better showcase of Black Adam and gives us a little of his pain. If done correctly, this film will need to bring the audience to the understanding of who Black Adam is and why he does what he does with maybe some tear moments. This movie seems a little like a revenge movie and Dr. Fate is trying to recruit him to do good, but Black Adam is not here for. It would be interested to watch this movie and see if we can spot some cameos. I am just hoping WB do not pull a Sony and Eff this ass.

(trailer review) - Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

If you know what happened to the acting Legend Chadwick Boseman, then you will already know that 1. The director Ryan Coogler had a heck of a task before him..and 2. Marvel's Kevin Feige had a heck of a choice to make. For those who do not know, Chadwick Boseman acted and starred as the titular character Black Panther whilst battling stage 4 Cancer. Chadwick told nobody of this and carried out his acting roles in Marvel movies and other movies for years before succumbing to the disease. Chadwick was such a great actor who left us with an iconic portrayal of the character that Marvel have decided NOT to recast T'Challa. Whislt I have heard some rumours going forward for the movie, we will have to see how this movie pans out. There will be some who would like to see someone recast as T'Challa and there are some who will say not to have him recast and let Shuri, T'Challa's sister played by Letitia Wright to play Black Panther  like in the comics. Chadwick was a great person, so filling his shoes will be a lot of pressure for the new actor in this role.

This trailer is beautiful. It seems to pay tribute to Chadwick as well as T'Challa. All eyes are on this movie and on Marvel on how they will execute his passing in real life and possibly in the movie, how does this play within the main story. This teaser trailer seems show Wakanda being swept up by the ocean, caused by Namor the Submariner (wild guess). Whilst we are not entire clear what is actually happening here in this, it does seem that Shuri, will take up the mantle of Black Panther, even if for a short time and a war with Atlantis breaks out. Let's wait for the first official trailer where more information will be given to us. But one thing is for sure, this WILL BE a very emotional movie for everyone who loved Chadwick as T'Challa.

(trailer review) - John Wick: Chapter 4

You know the expression "...opening up a can of worms", THIS entire franchise is exactly that. In case you are unaware with how this all began and the story soo far (I could be off as it has been a while, so spoilers if you have not seen any of the John Wick movies especially the first one). John Wick is minding his own business when a guy compliments his car and wants to buy it. After refusing, said car is stolen and John Wicks dog is killed.  Not to go into how much the dog means to John but John is an ex-assassin and he seeks revenge on the person who killed his dog. That was Chapter 1. This is Chapter 4.

To say this film does exactly what it says on the tin is an understatement. This film is simply a revenge film which has spiralled soo out of control, we are on the fourth film and it looks epic. There are elements to this which are almost nonsensical, but the world they have built for this movie, is incredible. The close quarters fights. The close quarters fights that include guns. The raw and visceral attacks with any instrument. If this trailer did it for you and you have not seen the previous three movies, I suggest you watch it before this as they all tend to lead on from the one before it and it is soo so good!

Directed by Chad Stahelski and starring Keanu Reeves, Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård, Laurence Fishburne, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson, Lance Reddick, Rina Sawayama, Scott Adkins, Clancy Brown, Natalia Tena, Marko Zaror & Ian McShane

(trailer review) - I Am Groot

So ummm, although I knew about this I do feel like this was sprung on me. Am I in the loop anymore? Am I not bothered? Comicon is currently on and while I know a lot of movies will have trailers and there will also be a lot of announcements, I just was not expecting this one for whatever reason, although I was well aware of this coming out. Maybe it was soo low on my Radar, I was expecting the bigger shows and movies rather than this.

For a character whose vocabulary is only 3 words, this trailer was fun, cute and charming so I would be interested in these shorts and how well they may be. I am sure there is a storyline here somewhere too, but if not, who cares? It is Groot being Groot and who does not love Groot? I am just hoping there is enough of Groot saying "I am Groot" that does not grow stale too quickly.

(film review) - Thor: Love and Thunder

From the 3 O.G Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes we know and love, Thor is the only one to receive a 4th movie, starring Chris Hemsworth and continuing from all the story-arcs that came before. With that said, Thor is the only person, currently, who may have another two movies to come and prove to be one of the only people from the Avengers team that may go on for a few more years until he is old and grey seeing in and out various new members of the Avengers team, whilst he continues doing his thing like the Asgardian warrior he is. But at the end of the day, does Thor and his adventures do anything for you after Endgame? Do you even like this movie? Should you like this movie? What does this movie do for the MCU? And was this movie necessary for the advancement of the franchise? The last two are somewhat the same question, but let me answer this for you.

After the events of Endgame, Thor went off with the Guardians of the Galaxy on a reflection and self discovery mission. After many battles and a different outlook on life, Thor decides to leave the Guardians when he discovers gods are being killed by a being named ‘The God Butcher’ (Christian Bale). Thor must put a stop to Gorr’s tyranny and save the gods with the help of The Mighty Thor, Dr. Jane Foster, who also has the powers of Thor.

To answer the questions above in reverse, this movie opens up the MCU in ways only Thor movies have done before. More characters, more worlds, more lore, cosmic. It expands on creatures and the storyline of Thor. In turn, this is a necessary advancement to the franchise because not only does Thor continue to grow despite the misery that surrounds him, Thor still has a lot to learn and a destination to get to. Rune King Thor maybe? However, Kevin Feige said a while back that Phase 4 will be more Cosmic and Thor has definitely done that.

There are many reasons as to why you should like this movie, but in my own opinion, there are also many reasons as to why you are likely to dislike this movie and one of those reasons is the humour. If you enjoyed Ragnarok, there is a possibility you will like this movie due to the tone, however, Ragnarok, this is not. This movie is funnier and sillier in moments. It reminds me of Guardians two, great film but everyone had a joke. This one, similar but just more goofy in places.

So, if you like Thor, like seeing him fight and like Taika as a director, there is a strong possibility you will enjoy this movie as it is very entertaining minus it's shortcomings. For me, I felt the film was cut drastically to speed the story along. I felt some of the dialog was not necessary at all and felt forced. Some of the actions and gags were over the top and unnecessary, just for the bit. Whilst I did laugh in this movie at some of the most crazy jokes and gags, I will say that, when this film gets serious, this film gets dark and chilling.

Gorr the God Butcher is a great villain, but is not in the movie as much as I would like him to have been and with that said, I would like to have seen much more from him and I believe there was time to showcase this. Which leads me onto nitpicky things I could have done with and without. Without going into spoilers, I will leave it at that but, this movie feels like it was chopped up whilst a lot of the movie is on the cutting room floor. With stories of Lena Headey's role being axed from the final cut, there is definitely a Taika cut!

The music is great. The fight scenes are great. The acting is great (“Look it’s Russell Crowe” - he was good, although his character was a little “off” for me to grasp and get with), but the film requires some more fleshing out of characters and moments. I felt like some story beats were not explained at all, although some things may have seemed self explanatory, an explanation would have gone a long way. How did this happen? Why did that happen? How is this possible? How does this work? Thinking about it now, the saying “phoned it in'' seems to apply for Taika here, in my opinion. Taika is a great director in the few things I have seen him direct, but I feel what he did here, was serviceable and could have been done with a bit more meat on the bone. Other than that, enjoy it for what it is, Thor with a film being more Cosmic and helping to open up the Marvel Cinematic Universe to...well, be an actual universe...what we have seen so far has been mere galaxies...
