(trailer review) - Blink Twice

I love it when an actor turns director. Sometimes it is about being in control of the art, knowing what you want to do and how you want it executed. And Zoe Kravitz is not someone I thought was going to make this turn. She has been in a few really good projects such as X-Men First Class, Mad Max: Fury Road and The Batman, but to get into directing and bringing us something that seems like a cross between Knives Out: Glass Onion and another thriller set on an island somewhere, this looks great. The acting, the cast, everything.

Channing Tatum seems to be some kind of billionaire who brings people to his wonderful island for a time of their lives only for it to literally be a time of their lives as people seem to go missing or end up dead? The end stinger with the lines "blink Twice if you are not ok" and Channing makes an slightly quick and awkward yet "charismatic" joke about the comment by covering the person's eyes and laughing it off, meaning he knows what is going on on his island. I think I need to see a other trailer to fully confirm how I feel, but I do want to watch this as I love a "murder mystery", suspense thriller.

(episode review) - X-Men '97 - Episode 7

I am pretty sure I had mentioned before that I sat down and watched all five seasons of the 1992 X-Men series from beginning to end. When I got my hands on Disney+, it did not take me that long to have a look and find the show to watch and reminisce on specific episodes. Moreover, I would watch the show just before bed or at random times going back-to-back with episodes and eventually falling asleep not knowing where I left off. So recently and just before X-Men '97 started, I watched all 5 seasons and made sure I paid a lot of attention to the episodes. I had heard the fifth season was not great and whoever told me that, was 100% correct. It was somewhat jarring due to the contrast between all the seasons and the last season. X-Men '97 though, although also jarring, the animation is EVERYTHING! It looks so good and even though some liberties have been taken in regards to how some of the characters look and dress, well only for some characters as they do look the same but with an upgraded artistic style. The same goes for the fighting scenes and scope of powers. I say all that to say this. Did these guys model Rogue's fighting moves off of the Marvel Vs Capcom computer game?

Not to go into too many spoilers because even mentioning Rogue fighting is a little spoilery, but this episode is called 'Bright Eyes', so we pick up after the events of episode five. It is not very hard to imagine Rogue going rogue in this episode but the cameos and name drops were great. I wanted to see Rogue fight the cameo, but in all honesty, there would have been no need other than seeing how well the other person did against Rogue, since Rogue has definitely been pulling her punches, at least we forget, Rogue got her powers from Miss Marvel and drained her of her power I put her into a coma. The cameo felt a little forced but it was good to see nevertheless to open out the universe.

This episode also touches on grief and how different people deal with it. It was touching and well written. I was hoping to see someone or a couple of people come back but that never happened in this episode, well...the other cameo came back which was also good. The writing and dialogue is top notch in this updated series. I just feel like I can relate to 90% of the things said in this show on a personal level. They really know how to humanise these characters. Minor spoiler, but there was a comment made from a famous real-life person, uttered in this show and if you know who Magneto and Charles Xavier's ideologies were based on, you will understand that, it's like poetry, it rhymes. Another great episode! Last week's episode was good, but not a weighty as this week due to the continuation from episode 5. The next 3 episodes are going to be a monster, I can tell.

(trailer review) - Deadpool and Wolverine

(TEASER TRAILER

So trailer two is here and Marvel did not hold back. It was mentioned that Kevin Feige said the Deadpool sequel would be the only Rated R movie from Disney. That he would not tamper with the Deadpool formula at all. But then the fans of the MCU, across the world looked at each other in disbelief and some even screamed out "Marvel is going to ruin Deadpool", "Marvel is going to ruin the ending of Logan". So with that teaser trailer they showed, they wanted to let people know, they were not holding back, other than holding back Wolverine of course. As I stated in my first review "...this movie is not for kids, and I love it!". But this trailer, on the other hand, wow, just wow. Definitely not for kids, especially as there were so many "F-Bombs" before the trailer even started properly telling us (the audience), that Kevin has indeed kept his world.

This trailer starts with Wolverine at a bar as usual and Deadpool comes in to take him somewhere. I am guessing a fight ensues pretty much immediately because, if this trailer has shown us anything other than a bunch of swear words, is that Wade and Logan are fighting for the majority of it and the easter eggs are plenty. There are a few characters you can see, albeit small and no real close-ups. There is an Ant-Man or Giant Man head which is similar to the Ant-Man/Giant Man in the Old Man Logan Novel (if you read that comic [the novel 'Logan' was loosely based on] you see the skeleton of a dead giant man in the Ant-Man outfit). You can see Alioth from the Loki TV series (somewhat fitting due to the TVA being involved), the reference to Rob's feet drawings from the comics, 20th Century Fox in ruins as if it has been pruned and not only do we see them eventually team up, but the Mad Max reference and the Red Skull's car. This looks like it is going to be very funny with layers upon layers of easter eggs in the end movie. One of the best parts for me in this trailer which had me crying with laughter, was the different slang terms for cocaine. I mean, is 'White Girl Interrupted' real? It cannot be! The music too!? Deadpool is a virgin to the MCU. Not to sound like a broken record Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool and High Jackman is Wolverine. I am happy they have not spoiled the trailer with lots of Cameos and I hope there are none in future trailers but even if they do show some, I feel that would not even scratch the surface of what they have in store for us. Maybe this movie will knock the MCU out of its slump.

(series review) [STREAMING] - Baby Reindeer

Where do I even start with this? What I will say first and foremost is that this show could trigger you, so this will be the first time I am issuing a TRIGGER WARNING for one of my reviews as it has subject matter that may upset you the reader or viewer. Although I will not go into any specifics about anything that happens in the show in detail due to spoilers, I would just want you to know that if you are indeed interested in watching this mini-series, please be aware, be cautious and seek the helplines below, should you need it.

There is a saying "Hurt people hurt people". If you do not understand what the saying means, in short, people who have been hurt by somebody, that person has also been hurt by somebody. To put that into relationship terms, you could be in a relationship with someone and someone in that relationship cheats on the other with someone else. The cheating comes to light, they break up, the person who was cheated on gets into another relationship and if they do not cheat themselves, maybe they behave in a way that hurts their new partner. It is not always the case but there are loads of other examples of this and for the most part, a lot has to do with the vicious cycle of abuse. Now the aim is not to give away the story here, but to give context to the behaviours of people in life, fictional or otherwise.

Donnie Dunn is a struggling comedian who works in a Pub in the hope of landing himself a huge gig. One day on his shift, a lady named Martha comes in and orders a drink. After a little chat and banter, Martha returns to the Pub daily in the hope of speaking with Donnie, but eventually and slowly, this turns into harassment until things turn dark and Donnie has to take matters into his own hands.

Seven episodes of British dark comedy which is also a drama-thriller that I could not seem to stop watching. You sit and watch the first few episodes intrigued and curious as to what is going to happen next. You find yourself shouting at the TV perplexed that these things are happening and why they are happening, but this slow burn starts to sink deeper into chilling and disturbing imagery. It all seems a bit bizarre and weird, having you ask yourself "Why would you let that happen? Why would you continue to go back? Why don't you make a police report?" You ask a lot of questions, but at the end of the show, your questions get answered, but not before the "mid-episode" dark turn the show takes. When I say dark, when you watch the episode, you will know what I mean because you will know it when you see it.

The acting in this show is stellar. For a show I did not know what to expect, you are led by the actors and their performances and although this is a dramatisation of real-life events, the acting made everything real. It felt real. From the comedy to the very dark moments, this show does not hold anything back and as gritty as it got, the humour was also there because, at times, life does bring its own levity at times. I would definitely recommend this show even though it is a little bit of a mind-job throughout, but your questions are answered near the end and be careful, you may even cry.

(trailer review) - Sweet Tooth: Final Season

Sweet Tooth was an interesting show when it started. We learned that a virus had spread across the world and anyone who was showing symptoms of the virus was killed. We eventually find out that due to an experiment, children were born with animal features and characteristics, but seen as abominations, these children were hunted and killed. An ex-athlete wanderer comes along and despite his dislike and disdain towards an innocent and naive antler-headed boy, the man dubbed "Big Man" names the boy Sweet Tooth and they go on an adventure to find his mother.

Season 2 centres mostly around the looking for and finding of Sweet Tooth's mother, the history of the virus' inception and the discovery of many other children with animal characteristics like Sweet Tooth. With the help of his friends, Sweet Tooth has to escape capture with the assistance of.... As this third season is the final season and where the last season left off, it would be interesting to know...

(series review) [STREAMING] - Fallout

It could well be the fact that I have been a fan of the Fallout series, even though I have only played 2 out of their "8" games. When they made the announcement of a new Fallout show, I was not sure what to expect initially, but because I am a bit of a fan I decided to give the show a shot. Besides, some of the shows adapted from games of recent, have not been terrible (I am looking at The Last of Us). Fallout 3 came out in 2008 and Fallout 4 came out in 2015. Again, I loved those games. I completed Fallout 3 including the expansion packs and I purchased Fallout 4 but never got around to completing it. Fallout is one of those expansive games where you are on a map and you can literally go anywhere...well, walk anywhere and everywhere, discover things and die multiple times in multiple ways and at times, this can become a little boring but it is fun. From what I have noticed, you start in a relatively small and safe area, but the moment you start to really get into the game, anywhere is not necessarily off-limits and you will die multiple times. The sheer scope of it all, the land you are roaming, all the other vaults you could visit which are usually abandoned, all the secret areas or secret rooms you have to lockpick your way into, monitors you have to hack for restricted areas, you just have to walk everywhere and there are lots of quests, jobs, and tasks to do, it can get a bit daunting at times, but it is fun. If you are like me, you would want to do everything and go everywhere and pick up EVERYTHING. You can either do all the quests and tasks or you can follow the storyline and do just that, but who wants to do that, right? This show, everything I just said about the game is faithfully adapted to screen and although I have some minor gripes, this show is excellent.

Lucy MacClaine (Ella Purnel) is a vault dweller who has lived in the vault her whole life. She only knows vault life like the other inhabitants who have lived in the vault for more than 200 years since the bombs went off. But when the vault is under attack and Lucy's father, the Overseer is taken, Lucy decides to venture out of the vault and journey into the wasteland in search of her father. As I stated in my episode one review "A vault dweller is the term used for someone who lived in an underground bunker when World War 3 happened and a nuclear fallout occurred. The term is used in the show. These people lived underground for hundreds of years and your character leaves the vault under the impression that the world above has poisonous air, is unsafe and uninhabitable. Whilst this is not necessarily far from the truth, your character finds their way above ground and you go on a quest." Exactly the same here, exactly like the game, but executed superbly. You understand Lucy's motive due to the bond with her father.

The show has some special effects but the use of practical effects was great to see as it gave the show a more physical and "unnatural natural" look. For example, I am pretty sure the Gulper (Salamanda) was practical effects here and there and a Gulper (Salamanda) in real life is not that big in size, but the practical effects made it feel like a real real-life Salamanda mutated from radiation, the size of a long-wheel based van and they used special effects where they could not make it look "natural" in other places such as movement. With that said, the visual depiction of an atomic bomb going off at the beginning of the show shocked me soo much that my jaw dropped. I even clapped when the opening credits started because the lead-up to it was simply great storytelling and great dialogue accompanied with great writing and acting from Walton Goggins. An atomic bomb going off looked beautiful and terrifying at the same time. As for other types of visuals, near the beginning of the show, there is a massacre and blood is flying everywhere and it looks great. We even see it in slow-motion., so I am guessing, as the gamer you would have slow-motion when using V.A.T.S (a targeting system) or when your character dies, you'll see your character die in slow motion, I think the slow motion in the show is a version of V.A.T.S for the audience. Plus the slow motion also shows the total carnage and chaos which can happen in the game. When I think of the nonsense and tongue-in-cheek elements of the game, they have successfully translated it here to screen.

As the episodes go on, the show touches on different ideologies of those who want to do the right thing and those who want to "take over the world". It does not help that the world you live in is not safe from the many mutated creatures and insects in the wasteland, but the people are also dangerous. This show manages to show you the normal people who were unaffected by the radiation and the people who were. The Gouls, the Ferel Gouls and some of the creatures such as the Rad Roaches, two-headed cows and the aforementioned Gulper. They touch on the deep dark secrets of Vault-Tec and the peak of human civilisation before it all went up in a ball of flames. In the game, you learn these things through dialogue, computer terminals and documents you come across. In the show, you get to learn about the history of the world through a few different characters.

The aesthetic of the Fallout franchise has always intrigued me due to its 1950's/1960's look, but with advanced technology for its time or, I guess, retro technology, I always found it fascinating and cool. Automic robots that hover and speak, devices and medicine to aid or help you from dismemberment or from many different illnesses or ailments, the show shows it all and as I also stated in my episode 1 review, "There are things in the game that make zero sense, also zero sense in the show, but if you are somewhat with the show and you see someone get killed with a projected doll's leg and you laugh and shrug it off, the show has you at this point. It's silly, but it works in the game and it works here". It is the dark humour laced throughout this show that adds to the tongue-in-cheek moments, because a post-apocalyptic show about the depths of how low humanity will go for control, should not really work on paper especially when it is accompanied by dismemberment, floating talking robots that can perform surgery, ghouls who can talk and others that do not, and people walking around in a suit making a person resemble a walking tank (looks amazing in the show) and animals mutated from radiation, just does not really work on paper, but this show makes it work translating everything from the game with ease. The sets for the landscape look amazing and it gives you a feel of what a real wasteland could look like. Plenty of dead bodies, and radiated areas and the vaults look amazing. In comparison to the few you come across in the game, the vaults are usually vacant, infested, dirty and grimey, but there is a reason for the "polished" look in the show, which makes sense. When playing the game, you use a device on your arm called a Pitboy. A Pitboy is like a smartwatch but very advanced and chunky in size. The show recreated the Pitboy and they found creative ways to show you the different functionalities which was cool.

There are three stories in this show from 3 different people's perspectives so the show is in 3 parts. After learning about Lucy, we learn about Maximus (Aaron Moten) and his journey from The Brotherhood of Steel. Later you get to learn bout the Ghoul and the layers are peeled back slowly about the world they live in and the characters in it. Each character has a great storyline and backstory that might even bring you to tears. Some of the drama in the show is written so well and acted superbly, when an episode finishes, you definitely want to get into the next episode and then the episode after that, so I understand how the binge model works here when a show is presented like this. Later in the show, the pieces start to connect together and the apple does not fall far from the tree considering one of the writers was Johnathan Nolan, brother of Christopher Nolan (look him up if you are lost...won an Oscar this year and also known for his out of sync/disjointed narrative). So from a marvellous first episode, every episode simply gets better and better with every watch. For example, I love a cold opening, so the cold opening in this show was right up my street, but when the title card started to drop from episode 2 onwards, I came to realise, that I really do like the "Invincible title card animation". I do not recall if this has worked anywhere else in TV other than Ozark, but having the title card different for every episode was a very nice quirky touch and not only does it set the tone for the show, it adds that quirkiness the show is laced with. Lastly, the music is ripped directly from the game, so halfway through this season, I suddenly had the urge to play the game because, well...I've said it before... because it's fun. Great show and I cannot wait for it.

(episode review) - Fallout

I used to have a Nintendo growing up. Nintendo, Super Nintendo, and then I went onto the Sony PlayStation. I had a PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and then I went on to the Microsoft Xbox. Xbox 360 to Xbox 360 Elite (It was still an Xbox 360, but my previous one had the red ring of death), and I was looking for something cool to play. It was under recommendation that I got into Fallout, and the game's cover looked cool. A meaningful-looking helmet-mask thing. This was Fallout 3. Although I am a bit of a completionist, I would ideally want to know the full story and play it from the beginning, not from Fallout 3. However, upon designing my character and getting into the story, I did not realise that the story of Fallout 3 was not really connected to Fallout 2. It was not a continuation of any previous story, and having purchased and played Fallout 4, my understanding of the Fallout franchise is, a bunch of different stories told with different protagonists, at different times, in different places of the world and with different people involved. The only thing that links the games is the setup, I guess.  I really enjoyed the game. In a nutshell (and loose potential spoiler for the TV show), a vault dweller is the term used for someone who lived in an underground vault when World War 3 happened and a nuclear fallout occurred. These people lived under the ground for hundreds of years, and your character leaves the vault under the impression that the world above has poisonous air, is unsafe and uninhabitable. Whilst this is not necessarily far from the truth, your character finds their way above ground, and you go on a quest. If I remember correctly, you are looking for somewhere called 'Eden' where life is meant to be pleasant, and I think the man behind the Eden Project wants to purify the radiated water in the wasteland, but on your way there, you can come across many, many, many hostiles. The surface people, people called Raiders, Ghouls, Feral Ghouls, Robots, Mutants, The Brotherhood, insects and animals changed by the nuclear fallout, so they tend to be double or triple in size and mutated. This post-apocalyptic landscape is not safe, and radiation can be found in a lot of pockets of different towns that could eventually kill you. This first episode was very similar to the game.

The cold open was excellent. The visual depiction of an atomic bomb going off and the shock and horror sold it to me. My jaw dropped. I even clapped when the opening credits started. After we are introduced to our main person, there are various attacks which occur and a massacre. Visually, it was great. When I think of the nonsense and tongue-in-cheek elements of the game, they have recreated it and translated it to the screen successfully. There are things in the game that make no sense, also no sense in the show, but if you are somewhat with the show at the point you see someone get killed with a projected doll's leg and you laugh and shrug it off, the show has you. It's silly, but it works in the game, and it works here. When playing the game, you use a device on your arm called a Pitboy. A Pitboy is like a watch, but so much more like a mini-computer, as it is very advanced. Chunky in size, but not only does it tell you the time, date, month, mood, etc, but it also informs you of your radiation poisoning, intoxication, and heart rate, among other things, such as how heavy your items are (in the game, of course). You can also use its system called V.A.T.S (Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System), which allows you to look at an enemy and see where you can strike someone with percentages of how successful the strike would be to do the most damage to incapacitate them or kill them. You often see limbs flying off, blood and gore flying everywhere. It is not only hilarious (if you are a sadistic person like me), but it is a gaming mechanic which is just enjoyable to watch as time slows down and you aim your pistol, shotgun, baseball bat, Fatman or flaming sword. And yes, Fatman, a device that fires mini-nukes to totally obliterate the enemy. This show in the first episode has managed the capture the core of what makes the games great, and this first episode was interesting. Split into 3 parts, you get the learn bout the characters and I am guessing, how they will come together later in the story. A marvellous first episode.

(episode review) - X-Men '97 - Episode 5

I honestly feel that the people behind this show sat down with Disney and said exactly this, "So, Disney...hear me out. I have this idea where we want to make an X-Men animation, in the vain of all past animation, style and story, with modern-day animation, art and techniques, but continuing the stories from the animated show from the 90's" Disney looked confused and asked, "why would you not just want to start from scratch with something new altogether like we have many times before?" And they replied "Why? Why not use what is already there and mine the stories even more. What did the X-Men do when Magneto took over? Is Charles Xavier really dead? What happened to Mr. Sinister? Is Apocalypse still around? Do we see any more stories with Cable? We can raise the stakes. We can make something from my childhood remain for children but age it up in line with today's animation. We will target the children who are now adults and possibly with their children, those who loved it. It would look spectacular and there are thousands of stories we can continue with" Disney apparently said, "Fine, as long as you bring back the old voice cast" And here we are, X-Men '97 which is essentially, season 6. A show from the 90's, continued from the 90's but with modern-day sensibilities; and this show is great. It simply raises the bar each week and it has become so engaging. It does not hold your hand or baby-feed you the story or what is going on, it trusts the audience to understand. It treats the audience as clever and that is an amazing thing.

Maybe it is just me, but I did feel like I knew what was going to happen in the show before it did. Certain moments were telegraphed. Everything was going too well for something bad not to happen and the second half of the show did not disappoint. The action was amazing because the tension was felt throughout the episode from the beginning and was steadily building. A love triangle is one thing, but to have two? Without going into any spoilers, I did think Mystique was in this episode and maybe we will see her later as THAT specific character. The thing at the end causing all that devastation was incredible and visually stunning. There was even a moment where it played like a movie with short bursts of a black empty screen, something you often see in trailers with the sound of a heart beating. Then to see that character pop up like they normally do only to disappear, there is definitely more going on with this storyline, but having not called it a part one (like in the original series), leaves me thinking that maybe the entire season has an over-arching storyline.

I was emotional, I am not going to lie. I am not sure how Omega mutants work and how they become Omega mutants but maybe there is a lot more to come that will flesh out the story a bit more than what we got at the end. Heartbreaking and emotional, the dialogue was great. The dialogue between characters was dramatic with a few zinger lines. Also, a top decision to have moments with no music to accompany the action. Next week can not come quick enough. Disney Plus is killing it!

(trailer review) - Joker: Folie à Deux

After watching the first movie, I felt that Warner Brothers did an amazing job. Joaquin Phoenix was great and the story of Joker was somewhat different to what a lot of people have known through reading the comics. I never read the comics and The Joker to me was basically the arch nemesis of The Batman. He wore purpler and Jack Nicholson played a great version of the Clown criminal back in the Batman movie with Michael Keaton as the titular hero. I really felt that this movie did not need a sequel. That perhaps, Todd Phillips or whomever took the job on (hopefully Todd) were to do another film based on another Batman villain, Mr Freeze, maybe. Imagine a film about a man named Viktor who is a scientist and he has a sick wife in whom he loves dearly, but is trying to cure her from her illness and ends up going down a dark and sinister path leading him to becoming the Mr Freeze we know from the comics...but they have decided to go with a sequel to Joker and they have also brought in Harley Quinn. So, will this be just as good as the first one, even though this is going to be a musical.

This trailer is great. The trailer does not show us any of the musical elements to the movie, but it does seem to continue the theme of the unreliable narrative from Arthur Fleck. What is real and what is all in his head. I had to rewind the trailer at the point where he was walking with the guards in the rain and he looks up towards the sky and you see the colourful umbrellas. My mind immediately thought, "I am sure I did not see colourful umbrellas is the shot before!?" And I was right. So It will be interesting to know and try to work out what is actually happening and what is not. I am hoping for a Shutter Island kind of movie where Harley Quinn is the person he is fantasizing over but she is the psychiatrist trying to help Arthur, but he goes off into these fantasies that play out differently to what is actually happening and maybe she does actually join him or maybe we are led to believe that. The chaos and anarchy. Hopefully this movie will be just as great as the first one and again, win awards. Also, this is just a teaser trailer, so there is more to come.

(episode review) - Invincible: Season 2 - Episode 8

This show is just clever. Cleverly written. The team behind Robert Kirkman's direction are pulling off things I have not seen before in animation in a visually stimulating way. For example, we are on season 2 and season 1 did everything to tell us that the title will pop up whenever anyone says the title within the show. In some cases it was halfway through an episode, in other cases, it was at the end of an episode, we waited and waited for it to pop up trying to guess when it would be and try to pre-empt it, but it was fairly random. In this second season and in this episode especially, there was a conversation which had a build-up, and just like that, they flipped it. I actually had to pause the show to continue laughing so I did not miss anything. I found it very funny and clever.
Later in the first half of the show, Mark is getting his usual treatment and the usage of "travel" (I will say not to spoil anything), was so incredible to see visually, I could not help but think of where a similar visual was done before, but lame in comparison, especially when it was cool when we first experienced it. Angstrum Levi, Sterling K. Brown with the excellent voice acting, calm delivery with a hint of maniacal was perfect, especially in the brief soft moments. There is not a lot of Angstrum in this season, but his story is great and excellently executed. They did a lot with the little they had.

In the latter half of the show, things were taken down a notch and the seeds which were sown in earlier episodes are starting to blossom. We have Alan back and at the beginning of hatching his plan. Mark is having another crisis and is finding it difficult to come to terms with his actions. There were two heartfelt moments with two characters in the show that made me feel for Mark which I could relate to. I mentioned something like this briefly last week. Oh yeah, so earlier I mentioned how clever this show is, but moments you could miss, a Detective Comics (DC) and a Marvel Easter egg in plain sight, which was very well played and made me laugh. You may even say it was cheeky, cleverly cheeky. My review last week mentioned the character and this week the character "turned up". I cannot get enough of this show, it is a show for smart viewers as it is cleverly written, acted out and soundtracked. As this is a finale, there is also a similar moment in this finale when compared to the finale of the first season. One more thing that caught me off-guard was the title of the finale, "I thought you were stronger". This show put such a twist on the title, I was left dumbfounded. It's just excellent writing and animation from an excellent show at this point.

So, do you still want to say that there is superhero fatigue? No, there is not. I will say it again and again until someone proves me wrong. There is mediocre fatigue because if I got £1 for everyone who says they are going to watch and actually watch The Boys season 4 and enjoyed it, I am confident that I will be in the money.

(episode review) - X-Men '97 - Episode 4

By dropping this show weekly, you are sparking up the conversation for the show and keeping this show alive. Not to say that it is boring or not entertaining, but to binge-watch a show, the show is simply "thrown away" once you are done with it and I believe this show deserves the buzz. This week on X-Men '97, we have two separate stories in one episode. Considering the episode is around 30 minutes long, it is really good how they have been able to tell a lot in a short space of time.

The first story centres around Jubilee and her Birthday. Wondering what to do and how to spend it, Jubilee and Sunspot get pulled into a 16-bit video game. The second story centres around Storm dealing with the loss of her powers and Forge has two things to declare.

Being a child of the 90's watching these cartoons and playing computer games, X-Men was up there with some of the best computer and arcade games, so to see Jubilee and Sunspot acting out/"playing" as 16-bit characters in games I would have played growing up was that nostalgia hit I did not know I wanted. So cleverly done and the kind of easter eggs for comic book readers and gamers alike were superbly done. From the sound of dial-up to flashbacks to the '92 series to the beat and scroll gameplay and bringing back one of Marvel's craziest villains, the first half of this episode hit me in the feels. I was elated because they covered all the angles for us older people who watched the '92 series, for those who played the computer games of that era and for newcomers who are on board this new X-Men TV series.

The second part of the episode was a calmer and more tame episode dealing with Storm and Forge during a dark time when Storm was in her life. Having lost her powers, she is being helped by Forge who wants to help but has also taken away. A stark contrast from the bright and boisterous first half to a moody second half with a reveal that will continue the stories further down the line. At this point, this X-Men '97 animated TV show is carrying Disney and the entirety of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on its back. Such good writing, stories, animation, music, voice-acting. The team are firing and it looks like with what they are currently going for, this show will continue for a while as there are thousands of great stories to tell and in this modern age for an older and younger audience.
